It’s been 2 weeks since my first national competition at the NPC North American Championships.

I competed in 1 class: Bikini, Masters 55+ A.
I came in 12th place out of 22 women.

The whole experience was amazing and eye opening! 5 days of competitors from Canada, Mexico & USA. So efficiently run!!

I met so many incredible people, many of which I have been following on social media for a while now.

But, I’ve been thinking about what I would share with you.

And I decided to focus on two things: having a good coach and consistency.
Vania has been my posing coach from the beginning of this competition journey, our first posing session was in December 2021. She became my coach for everything (workouts, nutrition, & posing) 2 years ago.
I decided to show you the first video of my posing session with her in Dec 2021 (sorry, there’s no sound for the first video) and my last session in my hotel room the day before the competition with her sitting on the floor prompting me (sound on 😉).
One of Vania’s mantras is: “Keep improving. Keep showing up!”
The video is proof that practice and consistency changes things!
Thank you Vania for sharing your gift and inspiring me 🥹😘

We all start somewhere…keep going!

1st national show for Queen @zariamurrell 👑💚

I am SO proud of you, Zaria! You have a beautiful physique, incredible structure, and a flawless stage presentation. Watching you step onto that national stage was such a proud moment for me as your coach. ❤️

We knew going into this show that being a natural vegan athlete would present its own challenges, but I still wanted Zaria to step on that stage and stand next to some of the best competitors in her group class. And she did just that. 👏🏾
nationally.
We received great feedback from the head judge.
We’re going to take our time, continue building, growing, and fine-tuning her physique so we can bring her BEST package to the stage next year. 🔥

Until then… back to work, Queen! 👑
We grow. We refine. We come back better. 💚✨ taken in Sheraton Pittsburgh Hotel at Station Square by @zariamurrell

Transparency post…
Reflections on my first competition of 2026!

Literally reviewing my posing routine backwards, because I’m reminding myself of glutes, legs, arms, shoulders, back and abdominal muscles that are being grown. 😮

When I started lifting weights 8 years ago, I never dreamed of standing on a stage. My goals were simply to be healthy as I continued to age. But, with amazing coaches, who first taught me how to use the gym equipment (@amber_j_ann), then encouraged me to compete (@elitefitnessbhm), I just really enjoyed the process of getting stronger, and was amazed at my body changing with consistent workouts and eating.

Being a science geek, vegan meal prep with the food scale made so much sense to me! #macros #carbcycling

I love the total package that has been intentionally developed with the guidance of my amazing Coach Vania @ifbbpro_fitvanou1 @teamviefitness

Y’all, this bodybuilding tribe are my people!! We are always encouraging, spotting & sharing with one another. I love each of you! We have already won!

Vania, thank you for guiding me in spite of my busy life as a pediatric surgeon, occasional injuries, and my frequent travels for mission trips, work, and leisure. You inspire me to keep showing up, keep improving!

To all the wonderful strong women I have met on this journey, you never cease to amaze me! I am humbled and proud to stand alongside you on the stage.

To the judges, thank you for the feedback! I heard you and am doing the work!

I’m forever grateful for my husband’s continued support at every show!! 😍 And for the first time ever, our adult son saw his mama on stage! 😭 #twocsections #notummytuckhere

I’m still in shock that I won in all my categories:
🥇Masters 55+ A (under 5’4”)
🥇Masters 55+ overall
🥇Heroes

Thank you everyone for making this day so amazing! Well run show!! 💯💯 @nashvillefitshow

Queen @zariamurrell, you did AMAZING yesterday! 👑🔥

Between your job, all your trips, and that calf injury 🤣, we still found a way to prep, stay consistent, and get you on that stage!

I absolutely love the balance you have between your life and bodybuilding. You showed that you can chase your goals while still living your life. 💪🏾❤️

Thank you mommy for showing us the way.
I’m ok with you resting now, but for so long I wanted to learn more from you.
Because you gave me life, love and light, I get to love and be a mama to these precious souls.
I’m forever grateful.
