“I see myself on a very serious mission…” Artist @gazelledasti is the first Iranian woman to receive a Burning Man Honoraria grant for her large scale metal sculpture of ZARVAN, the ancient Persian deity of time. She speaks about her goal of being a role model for Iranian women and girls, to show by example what women are capable of when they have no limits. This art piece is not only an ambitious and beautiful project, but a cultural representation of Iran. Follow and share to help spread this mission!
Special thanks to @vimalafaithphoto for the interview footage 🙏🏼

Some moments on the playa felt almost unreal.

Watching ZARVAN become part of the landscape, surrounded by fire, dust, moonlight, and the people who brought it to life in their own ways, was something I will never forget.

A piece of Persian heritage standing in the vastness of Black Rock Desert, creating its own stories through every encounter.

Art becomes something greater when people make it their own. 🩵✨

👑 Finding moments of timeless elegance in the dust. ✨🌎
So captivated by the sheer presence of Zarvan @zarvanproject a monumental masterpiece by the incredibly talented Gazelle Dasti @GazelleDasti gracing the playa at #BurningMan2026
This breathtaking sculpture, with its serene turquoise face and a gold crown featuring intricate stained-glass cutouts, is a true fusion of ancient Persian artistry and contemporary design. The detailed, colorful floral and geometric patterns (islimi) adorning the surface are just mesmerizing, especially in this soft desert light. 🌺🕌
Seeing it at this scale, with friends working at its base, really emphasizes the colossal effort of construction. A huge shoutout to Gazelle and her team for months of hard work, engineering, and dedication to turn this profound vision into a reality in #BlackRockCity 🏜️The complex pattern work and structural ingenuity required are humbling.
Immense gratitude to @BurningMan and the entire community for creating the space where art like this can exist and inspire. Thank you, Gazelle, for sharing your gift with us. ❤️🙌

When you have fire in the sky at Burning Man w/ ZARVAN by Gazelle Dasti from Reno NV. ZARVAN, the ancient Persian deity of time, is a 23-foot interactive sculpture in the form of a monumental human head that explores perception, communication, and collective presence. Visitors can look through internal periscopes aligned with the eyes to experience the surrounding landscape through ZARVAN’s gaze. Integrated speaking tubes within the ears allow people on opposite sides of the sculpture to speak and listen through the structure itself, making the work a vessel for human connection and shared presence. Its luminous crown, inspired by traditional Persian stained glass, responds to human presence with shifting colored light, while the faceted steel body draws from Persian rug geometry and is hand painted with Persian rug motifs, embedding cultural memory into the form. Through sight, sound, and participation, ZARVAN becomes a living, responsive system. - Jewels of Black Rock City #burningman #persian #burningmanart #gazelledasti #burnergirls by @zarvanproject

Another favourite piece at Burning Man this year: [Mighty] Zarvan. @zarvanproject

Beautifully brought to life by Gazelle Dasti (@gazelledasti). Persian pride, sitting the most pretty in the middle of the desert.

Probably one of the busiest art pieces out there this year. Every time I tried to capture a clean, people-less shot, I failed miserably. So the first frame is the one I eventually settled on.

It honestly blows my mind how much work, time, love, and sheer effort goes into creating something this magnificent then bringing it all the way out to the playa. Assembling it. Throwing parties around it. Taking care of it. Living with it for a week. Then disassembling the whole thing and calling it a day. If it’s not burned, of course.

Gazelle, we’re all so proud of you my dear friend. You created something that made some magical impact on everyone who experienced it, brought a very special veteran artist into tears, and I have a feeling Zarvan will be on people’s tongues for years to come.

Well done, can’t wait to see your next project. Keep pushing through.

دمت گرم, افتخار مایی دوست من.

Building the art is one challenge. Months of hard labor. Solving problems. Coordinating a team. Building the art on Playa is a whole new challenge … transpiration, heavy machinery, and dealing with the weather. We got so lucky to set up ZARVAN on this incredible sunny day with no wind … and having an incredibly skilled team didn’t hurt waiter. Huge, huge thanks to all of our champions who were with us from the start and or Burning Man Art Support Team. We could not have made this magic without you!
