In April and May I had the opportunity to spend time in two residencies: first in @schlossplueschow and then in @residencyweidenkam ❤️
In the magical castle of Weidenkam (4) I experimented with bigger sequins, which we collectively assembled to form a nice kinetic wind sculpture in which the surrounding nature was mirrored (1)
On the roof of the castle, I installed a mother-of-pearl sequin flag (2) covered a hay bale with a knotted fishnet (3) and hung some bags filled with water and sequins into a tree (8/9)

slide 5-7: studio visit of my grandma

To @schlossplueschow (13) I arrived directly from CDMX craziness into Mäck-Pomm wilderness! For one month I could work in huge, beautiful light-filled studios (12). I ran across the biiig fields around, checked out Rügen’s chalk cliffs, dearest Timmy, Uecker’s dome windows and much more!
I tried some new things: Like knotting the fishnet out of cut fringes of sequins fabric or gluing sequins directly onto the Dibond (16)…

including new works like a giant „Fischschwarm“, a duck’s tail cast in tombak and displayed in the creek outside the gallery, a duck’s head coming out of the ceiling, a simple pattern stitched in sequins and a waving hand. 👋

Last summer, I showed a new series of reversible sequin works: an image of a flower turns into a single monochrome color and vice versa. Each flower stands for one season of the year. 🌸🌻🪻🥀

Size: 117 × 78 cm, mounted on Alu Dibond

1. Sunflower (summer)
2. Chrysanthemum (autumn)
3. Christmas rose (winter)
4. Snowdrops (spring)

Soon (in Germany), the first snowdrops will appear!

I continued making balloon sculptures — here you see “Flying Curators”, two balloons of the curators @bergvonberk and @hausfrauenkunst from our class show @klassekogler in Paris (@229.lab )earlier this year.

Later, I also made one of Peter Pilz as his birthday present during @hochsommer.art, where we celebrated @koglernet and I had the opportunity to show my diploma work again.

It looked great in the old Kugelmühle, Feldbach (AUT) next to @kd.ludwig big hand and @manuelgorkiewicz beautiful Luster!! 💙

Als letzten Post vor dem Diplom, fehlt noch die Eat-Art show von Silke (@silkenano)!🔥Das war auch im Oktober. mit dem klangvollen Titel:
Art is what makes life more interesting than art
stellte Silke eine Ausstellung auf die Beine, die 4 Generationen von KünstlerInnen zusammenbrachte, die sich mit Essen in der Kunst beschäftig(t)en. 🥣💗
Ich zeigte zwei neue Arbeiten:

🎤slide1-3: Edible Taylor
Lebensmittelfarbe auf Oblatenpapier
82 x 57 cm

Taylor Swift ist wahrscheinlich der größte Star unserer Zeit. Sie wird von Millionen von Menschen über die Medien konsumiert und verschlungen, so wie sie hier als essbarer Papierdruck gegessen werden kann. So verschwindet Taylor Stück für Stück aus dem Ausstellungsraum und lebt fragmentiert in den Bäuchen der Besucher_innen weiter.

🪪slide 4-6: Fresskartenset
Lebensmittelfarbe auf Oblatenpapier, Aluminium-Visitenkartenhalter
11 Karten à 55x85 mm, mit Etui: 9,5x6,4x1 cm
Auflage von 44 Stück + 4AP

Von jedem der ausstellenden KünstlerInnen wird eine Visitenkarte auf Oblatenpapier gedruckt. Falls kein Design vorhanden ist, wird in Absprache eins entworfen.
BesucherInnen ist es möglich ein Set aller Karten als Edition zu erwerben.
Durch das Essen der Karten wird vielleicht ein Teil der jeweiligen KünstlerInnenidentität in sie übergehen.

1) Nach der Sommerpause durfte ich die Ausstellung „vacancy“ in unserem geliebten @space_n.n kuratieren. Ich sehe die Ausstellung als eigenständige Arbeit und möchte sie daher der Vollständig halber gerne auch hier listen.
Die ersten beiden Bilder zeigen gut die beiden Modi der Ausstellung: Einmal sieht man die Stockbetten, bespielt mit den Arbeiten der eingeladenen Künstler*innen aus Wien und einmal wie sie darin schlafen.
Am nächsten Morgen wird Kunst und Bettwäsche wieder gewechselt.
So konnten wir vier Tage lang, das ganz Eröffnungswochenende von @variousothersmunich , die Gäste aus Wien beherbergen und versorgen, es war wirklich herzlich!

2) Baby-Quaste 👶

Nach der grossen Mama oder Papa-Quaste aus Wien, habe ich dann im Oktober für die Ausstellung „Über die Textilie hinaus Vol III“ eine Baby-Quaste geknüpft.
Die Texil-Übersicht-Show ging schon ins dritte Jahr, organisiert von @stefan_wischnewski_studio in der @galeriefoe.
Die Baby-Quaste ist noch nicht ausgewachsen und auch noch nicht so farbig, ihren dünnen Seile habe ich von @seilereipeterweiss, @tauwerk.de und @lirosropes bekommen, Merci beaucoup!🪢🧵🧶
Danke auch an @heavensgate_klettern_bouldern und @higheast_kletterhalle !

Back in Munich, July 2024, it was time for Jahresausstellung!! ❤️
@bergvonberk and @kd.ludwig curated a wonderful exhibition exploring the theme of posters.

I contributed with two XXL sequins, cut out of foil and directly applied to the window of our classroom. By simply opening and closing the window, the sequins would turn automatically. Architecture meets textile meets shell and façade. ✨

Slides 4 & 5: We also set up a shop where everyone in the class sold some posters. My posters featured the pair of my eyes: one open, one closed.
Because somehow the opening and closing of the window, the turning of the sequins, and their circular, pupil-like shape reminded me of a blinking eye. 👁️

Recap of my two last projects during Vienna exchange: 🔥

Vögel, vogelhaus (2024)

For the second time, funnily enough, I could exhibit in the @skulpturenpark_at together with the class of @skulptur_und_raum and we decided to continue Claudia Märzendorfer´s series “for the birds” and to all build birdhouses. 🐦‍🔥🦆
I decided to buy a cheap one from Willhaben and to remove everything but the facade. „…The second-hand mass-produced product is transformed into the nature whose idealized image it was intended to evoke. A mirror in the entrance hole shows the real surrounding landscape and thus prevents the birds from flying into a house that is no longer usable anyway. Human intervention in nature is generally called into question.“ (SQ)

Then, end of June I had the chance to curate the show „ideal means“ together with @juliansiffert again in @neuerkunstvereinwien. For the entrance area I collaborated with @jonathanpielmeier and we created two „flying“ tables by raising the jacks from the garage and mounting two benches from NKW on them. 💫
In keeping with this, we turned the two bar elements from the previous exhibition on their sides, creating the work “swing” in which visitors could chill. 🦥☺️
The reflector fabric, which had served as the floor of my work “Bar” a few months earlier, I draped at the entrance and hung it up like a theater curtain. ❤️

Documentation of my bar-Installation in the magic @neuerkunstvereinwien !! 🏰✨

Variable dimensions, here: approx. 6x7 m

Sebastian Quast’s works in the form of interventions in public spaces, installations and participatory projects combine humour and the design of social settings. For example, he initiated a temporary nail salon in which he painted the toenails of visitors in the exhibition room, or he designed an entrance sign for the Munich Academy that was reminiscent of circus lettering. He transformed the entrance area into a bar for the exhibition’s opening night. He takes up the previous use of the car dealership by covering the bar platform with reflector fabric - based on covers for cars and motorcycles that have been left unused outside for a long time. In addition to serving drinks, Quast’s spatial and performative interventions turn the place into a stage for an evening. (Juliane Bischoff)
