In January, I had the gift of spending several days with the Siekopaai community in their ancestral territory in the Ecuadorian Amazon. From the moment we stepped into the forest, the trees, light, and calls of the oropendola birds drew us in, and time seemed to slow. 
We witnessed the climbing of a towering sacred tree, planted new life with fruit trees, participated in a traditional ceremony, and learned the art of ceramics. Over dinner, elder Gilberto shared the origin story of the Siekopaai, his words carrying history, weaving values, and connection to the land, showing how the community’s bonds with one another and the forest remain central to daily life. 
Hearing how the CEFO community connectivity project has helped reconnect relatives in territories that are now considered Peruvian and strengthen ties across communities was deeply moving. I was especially inspired by the Keñao Women’s Association, whose skill, creativity, and dedication bring life to the community while nurturing culture, conservation, and education. 
I am so grateful to the Siekopaai community for welcoming us, sharing their knowledge, and opening their world, and to Yadira, Lily, and Maricela for their warmth, and to the @cefoindigena team, Pablo, Joaquin, Katia, and Samay, for their guidance and support. 
The Siekopaai remind us that nurturing both the land and our relationships is vital, and their care for their territory and culture is a living example of how Indigenous knowledge guides meaningful ways of being. 🌿

Walking across the stage of Columbia University is a moment I'll never forget. I’m humbled by the experience at GS, proud of my accomplishments and energized by future opportunities to give back to people and the planet. It’s been a privilege to learn from some of the brightest minds in the world and to know we will always be a part of this amazing community. Yesterday, we had the opportunity to present our research findings from Bangladesh at the Columbia SDev Capstone Briefing. It was a momentous occasion for us as we got to showcase the hard work we've put in and share our experiences with everyone in attendance.

Reflecting on our presentation, I can't help but reminisce about our unforgettable field trip to Bangladesh. It was an immersive experience that left us feeling humbled, inspired, and energized. Our peers at Dhaka University showed us unparalleled hospitality and shared their knowledge with us, which made the trip even more special. We're extremely grateful for the chance to learn from the people and places we visited.

One of the most impactful experiences was interacting with the local community. Their warmth and kindness towards us made us feel welcome and at home. We were able to learn about their culture, customs, and way of life, and it helped us gain a deeper understanding of the challenges they face. It was humbling to see their resilience and determination, and it made us more committed to our work.

Sleeping on a boat and traveling through the Sundarbans was also unforgettable. The boat crew was wonderful, and it was mesmerizing to be surrounded by the stunning natural beauty and wildlife. Although we didn't spot a Bengal tiger during our time there, we thoroughly enjoyed exploring the area. The memories we created during our journey will be with us forever, and we're grateful for the incredible experiences we had.
