You walk into a bar. You know what you want to order. But you don’t know the language the bartender uses.

What do you do?

SEE WHAT I SAY is a documentary film about what it takes to understand someone — and find a place where you feel understood.

Deaf people are often expected to adapt to a hearing world. But what happens when hearing people are asked to make that effort?

The film begins in bars where that shift becomes real. In Bologna, Deaf and hearing people have shared a space for over a decade. In Vilnius and Kyiv, the experiment is just beginning.

From there, we follow our protagonists into their lives. Arnas searches for belonging between Deaf and hearing worlds. Oleksandr builds a new life in Italy while his mother refuses to leave her home in war-torn Ukraine.

Sharing a language does not guarantee understanding. Not sharing one does not have to mean remaining strangers.

Directed by @arturasjevdokimovas and produced by @ringailelescinskiene, SEE WHAT I SAY is in early production. It is being made with Deaf collaborators, whose perspectives and sign languages shape how the story is told.

A co-production by Zero Copy Reel (Lithuania), @waya_production (Ukraine) and POPCULT (Italy).

ко-продюсер @arturasjevdokimovas 💛 taken in Ukraine Україна by @zerocopy.lt

🎬 What happens when filmmaking becomes a way to break communication barriers?

We visited the set of “See What I Say”, an international documentary project bringing together Lithuania, Italy and Ukraine to explore communication, human connection and the power of sign language.

But this film goes beyond telling a story.
With Deaf and hard-of-hearing people actively involved in the filmmaking process, both in front of and behind the camera, the production embraces a more inclusive and socially sustainable approach to cinema. The project also encourages hearing crew members to learn sign language, creating opportunities for mutual understanding and collaboration.

Directed by @arturasjevdokimovas and produced by @ringailelescinskiene , the documentary challenges the way we think about language, accessibility and the barriers that often go unnoticed in everyday life.

Because sometimes, making a difference starts with learning a new way to communicate.

After a long creative process and a journey through European film festivals, Arturas Jevdokimovas and Ringailė Leščinskienė’s observational documentary “Life and Death of a Christmas Tree” has finally hit Lithuanian cinemas. 🎬🎄

We had a pre-premiere on 4 December, which went wonderfully. After the premiere, the audience had a chance to chat with the filmmakers over a glass of wine, and one of the audience members won a prize from the sponsors - a Christmas tree that will delight the winner this Christmas!

Thanks all the sponsors for making it happen 🙏🏻 #lifeanddeathofachristmastree #kaledueglutesgyvenimasirmirtis #zerocopy #nulinekopija #forumcinemas taken in Forum Cinemas by @zerocopy.lt

All the previous film premieres have been fantastic, but the upcoming one holds a special place in our hearts ❤️

Our documentary “The Life and Death of a Christmas Tree” had its premiere in its country of origin, Georgia, at BIAFF Batumi International Art House Film Festival 🇬🇪

The event was significant, as the main characters from Tlugi village were present. We extend our gratitude to the Batumi International Arthouse Film Festival and its director, Zviad Eliziani, for the opportunity to showcase the film and meet Kaxa Kobaxidze, Tekla Kobakhidze, Gabriel, and their family, as well as Luka Kbiladze’s family.

Special thanks to Tomas Ivanauskas, Attaché for Culture of the Republic of Lithuania, the Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania in Georgia and Ambassador Darius Vitkauskas, the Director of the Communication and Cultural Diplomacy Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Viktorija Urbonavičienė for their support.

📣 Producer Ringailė Leščinskienė @ringailelescinskiene was a jury member for two esteemed Georgian film festivals! 🎉

She first participated in the Art&Travel International Film Festival in Tbilisi on September 28 and 29, celebrating the intersection of film, art, and travel.

Shortly after, on September 30, she joined the @biaffbatumi BIAFF International Short Films Competition jury during the Batumi International Art-House Film Festival. This experience allowed her to engage with fellow filmmakers and celebrate the creativity showcased in independent cinema.

Ringailė’s contributions to these festivals highlight the importance of collaboration and artistic expression in the film industry.
