Six Composers, One Evening of Bold New Music

Earlier this year, six composers were given time, a room on the Kent coast and a world-class player at their side: Associate Artists Thomas Kelly (piano) and Ryan Corbett (accordion), with Paul Mealor LVO and John Frederick Hudson as tutors.

This concert is the proud culmination of this residency programme. All six composers will be there, along with Thomas and Ryan. Join us to celebrate the artistry that happens when JAM support meets bold new ideas.

My first cake log! Landscape Cake — inspired by Mahler’s composing hut in Steinbach am Attersee, Austrian lakes, and landscapes.

The launch concert is on 20 June, 7.30pm at @stjohnswaterlooarts , with pay-what-you-can tickets.

The programme will feature the premiere of my new piece ‘Eat Your Rage’, performed by @orchestrafortheearth and conducted by @warnjr.

A warm and inspiring message from our dear Patron, Marina Mahler, as we prepare to launch our annual Alpine Tour next weekend in London. We would like to thank Marina for all her support, encouragement and precious presence right from the beginning of OE's journey. @marinafmahler

Our launch concert on 20th June at @stjohnswaterlooarts will springboard our exciting tour by land of the exquisite locations where Mahler himself composed (and was inspired to compose) the music we will be performing.

We are really excited to announce that the 2026 JAM Composer Residency begins this Monday in Littlestone, Kent. ‘Into the Bellows’ brings together three UK composers: @zhenyan___, @georgewparris and Noah Max for a fully-funded residential programme on the Kent coast, exploring the art of writing for accordion in collaboration with internationally acclaimed accordionist @ryan.accordion.

Across the week, our composers will work closely with mentors @profbgb LVO and @johnfrederickhudson (JAM’s Artistic Director), developing new works through workshops, rehearsals, discussion and creative collaboration; thus culminating in world premiere performances at the JAM on the Marsh festival this July and in London later this year.

For over 25 years, JAM has championed living composers and created opportunities for new music to thrive. This residency continues that mission: supporting bold artistic voices, collaboration and the creation of new work at the highest level. Unlike every other planet in this suite, OGLE-2016-BLG-1928 orbits no star. It drifts alone through deep space — one of possibly billions of 'dead' worlds wandering the galaxy, almost impossible to detect.

In her movement of The Exoplanets, composer @zhenyan___ doesn't simply evoke isolation, but the rich imaginative darkness that comes with it. The orchestra throws contrasts into sharp relief — light against dark, chaos against stillness — before receding entirely, leaving a single violin alone in the silence. Isolated, adrift, and briefly, vividly present. Then gone.
