Canyoneering doesn’t always mean rappelling on a rope! Sometimes, the drops are short enough that you can find other fun and exciting ways to get down while still prioritizing safety.

This technique is called a partner capture! It’s all about teamwork, trust, and control:

Lean back and lower yourself in a controlled manner.

🤝 Trust your partner to add friction by pressing on your legs to help control your descent.

Catch! Your partner helps control your movement all the way down.

It’s a fun way to navigate certain drops, but proper technique, communication, and knowing when it’s appropriate are key. In the canyon, teamwork makes the adventure!

A little awareness goes a long way in the outdoors.

The Narrows in Zion National Park is an incredible place to explore, but here’s something worth knowing before you go:

The Virgin River has documented occurrences of cyanobacteria, sometimes called blue-green algae. Some types can produce toxins that may be harmful to people and pets.

So, what does that mean for your next adventure?

💧 Don’t drink the river water- even if it’s treated.

👀 Check current Zion National Park water-quality advisories before your hike.

🪨 Avoid touching or disturbing slimy algae mats on rocks.

🌦️ Check weather conditions and flash-flood forecasts.

🎒 Bring plenty of drinking water and the right gear.

Knowledge isn’t meant to keep us inside. It helps us explore more responsibly. 💚
