Hi! I’m just over here in Philly trying to stay connected to the mysterious forces of nature through my studio practice while also raising teens in an underfunded city and helping higher ed workers make unions. 🫠I have a lovely new basement studio space in my home that I worked on setting up over the last two years - one of these days I’ll actually plan an open studio party. I’m making a ton of new work and in the studio I often think to myself, “I’m at the height of my powers!” - which of course is a bit dramatic - but is also exciting because at age 48 I feel it’s about time! I’m continually figuring out how to be in art community and show my work with everything else I have going on. If you’ve been thinking about reaching out for a studio visit, this is your sign! I’d love to share my work with you in person in West Philly or on Zoom, and am always thrilled to be invited to other artists’ studios as well. A few weeks ago - could have been a lifetime - I had the good fortune to have my work reviewed by critic Lori Waxman as part of her 60 wrd/min art critic project, featured in the @thephiladelphiacitizen.What a delight to have my recent work so incisively understood in a brief viewing. Link in my bio to read all the reviews from her Philly visit.Our creative humanity has never been more important to preserve, in the face of dehumanizing forces. I intend to continue finding and creating beauty in this world. by @zoecohenart

Night TideFlashe on Driftwood7 x 3”July 2026Norton Island, MaineTowards the end of my residency at @easternfrontier_society, I started a series of paintings on found wood. Some I had collected myself, others were brought to me by poet @knorton0412 as a birthday gift. I thought I might make wood-burned drawings on them, but they invited color. This is my first use of Flashe and I’m totally in love with the velvety matte finish and the ability to layer and move the image around after working in watercolor for a number of years.Save the date! I am so into this!! Seaside Pea at Ebb TideWatercolor on Paper, 9x12”July 2026Norton Island, MaineHome from an incredibly nourishing 10 days at the @easternfrontier_society residency. So grateful to have had this expensive time on a gorgeous island on the downeast Maine coast. My work will continue to be informed by the experience of sinking deeply into nature in this mostly untouched coastal landscape. The joyful company of many kindred spirits was an unexpected bonus - we swam in the frigid water and sunned ourselves like seals each day! I’m back in the city carrying some of that wildness with me. Barnacle Teeth at Low TidePen & Ink, 4x6”2026I leave the @easternfrontier_society residency tomorrow morning. I have had an incredibly nourishing time here. More to come on that and the other work I completed while here. For now, a drawing of the largest barnacles I came across on Norton Island. Like mussels and starfish, barnacles are no longer a common sight on the tidal shores of Maine due to warming ocean temperatures. Barnacles found at low tide on Norton Island by @zoecohenart
