It’s been 3 years since we posted the Mmanwu teaser.

When you work on a project for so long, you become so fixated on finishing it that you don’t always take the time to appreciate how far you’ve come.

I want to take that time now.

In 3 years, we produced a proof of concept trailer. Ran a successful kickstarter campaign. Made script rewrites and storyboard revisions. Designed characters and environments. Wrote and scored original music in English and Igbo. Recorded voice actors in the US and Nigeria. Tabled at LightBox Expo.

Producing this film has been one of the hardest things I’ve ever done, but having the support of this team has made it worthwhile. I will forever be grateful for all the artists and musicians who believed in this film enough to help bring it to life.

The film isn’t done yet but I can’t wait to share it with all of you when it is. I can’t wait to show off the work of this incredible team. To every person who has contributed to Mmanwu, thank you. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Let’s take this film to the finish line.

Happy Independence Day. Swipe for some production artwork 🇳🇬🤍

Mmanwu Animatic Screening at ZOMA House | 03/25/26 ꩜

Working on Mmanwu for the past 3 years has been a continuous lesson on patience and trusting the process. Last month, I screened the animatic in front of an audience of friends, family, and peers. It was my first time sharing the film with so many people at once. Normally I’d send a link and wait for feedback, but this time I got to watch and hear people’s feedback in real time.

Hearing an audience laugh at all the right moments was so affirming.

Having people share post-film reflections that made it clear they understood the themes was so affirming.

Seeing my family’s reaction to a film they inspired was so affirming.

There have been moments on this journey where self doubt has crept into spaces confidence should reside and it left me questioning if the work was any good. However, this screening reaffirmed how special this film is. I’m so excited for everyone to see what this incredible team has been working on.

When I first started working on Mmanwu in 2023, I never would’ve imagined that the path would lead me to screening it in a space of my own. But here we are. Thank you past me for taking a leap of faith.

What an incredible first time at LightBox Expo! We were greeted with so much kindness and enthusiasm the entire weekend and we loved seeing people’s reactions to our proof of concept trailer. Thank you to everyone who stopped by our booth and chatted with us.

If you dropped a business card at our table, you will be getting an email from us soon! In addition, we plan to open an online shop to sell our excess inventory so if you weren’t able to stop by our booth you can still grab some merchandise.

See you next year! 🧡✨
