As many of you may know, one year ago my lovely momma and I expanded @curatedgigharbor into the beautiful Ballard neighborhood. When I first moved to Seattle four whole years ago (wow, I know), Ballard was where I moved. I lived above the QFC and walked to work every single day. I loved it, it was the catalyst for me falling in love with Seattle. I always craved that sense of community, where the barista at the coffee shop knows your order and your name, you pass friends on the street and they stop to say hello. Since moving here I’ve bounced around jobs, staying within the retail world, until November when I officially took over Curated Ballard full time. What started as an idea for curated gifting, soon began to evolve. At the same time our store began to shift, and we began to understand our audience a little better, I fell head over heels in love with the wine world. It marries things that I have always been drawn to in a beautifully cohesive way - community, art, history, food, travel, and nature. I can attribute this love to a lot of different things, but the biggest thing is the people in my life who encouraged, taught and guided me - from friends and family, to my wine reps and winemakers, to fellow wine lovers and people in the industry.

So, here we are. 1 whole year later, celebrating everything we have accomplished in the last 365 days. Though it has been difficult at times ( a roller coaster to say the least) I have never been happier and prouder of what I do. I wake up every day excited to start work, see my favorite regulars, meet new people, try new product and explore!!!!! As we celebrate this achievement, we have worked very hard to assemble a celebration that feels authentic, celebratory and community driven. All of this to say, please join us this coming Saturday, August 29th, for a day filled with amazing wine, amazing music (we finally got a record player and some awesome records from @sonicboomrecords ), amazing people, amazing snacks, AND @ramcellars pouring with us. The celebration will be from 2-9pm, with Vivianne here from 5-8.

one year ago today, i lost one of the most important people in my life.

this grief has changed me- in many ways it has made my heart heavier, harder to carry. but in many ways it has made me a better person. i’ve begun to slow down, to notice the way light filters through the branches in trees, or feel how the breeze caresses my skin on a windy day. i notice the birds singing from their perches in the trees. i savor the taste of my friends home cooked meals, i save every new song i fall in love with. and it’s all in the name of johnny. he had so much left to do earth side, we had so many things planned. death is still such a hard thing for me to grapple with most of the time. i still wake up wanting to text him or plan my next trip out to visit his church before i remember.

at the end of all of this though, there is love. and something i think is so beautiful is that every single person in my life knows johnny and speaks with me about him like they knew him personally for years. the impact he has had on the people around him - even if they didn’t ever meet him - is something that inspires me everyday.

in the past year i have met so many beautiful people. each of them i see a part of him reflected in. little bits of his humor or wit. and i know, though he has left his earth side body, he is with me every single day. i have found new passions, travelled, loved and lost, and i will continue to do those things johnny didn’t get the chance to.

so this is a thank you as always to him. i wouldn’t be half the person i am without the love he showed me. i love you forever johnny🤍 by @zomurrphy
