I love urban wildlife; talk about adaptability. Many species, like the coyotes that live in my neighborhood, are often unseen and undetected. These two travel through my area frequently, and do a magnificent job at avoiding people and their dogs. Often they are just ahead or just behind people, always paying close attention and going unnoticed.

“But Rick, you saw them. You took a picture of them. How is that unnoticed and undetected?” All true. I am watching from indoors and not on the ground floor. So for the most part, I pose no threat as far as they are concerned. I do enjoy my coffee, watching the birds as the sun comes up. And it’s usually in that time I see these two.

Got a late start to my #SundayRunDay trail run. Usually when I have a late start I don’t get to see as much wildlife. Today, even though they had already settled into the scrubland, and I could not see them, my coyote friends treated me to a song to welcome me into their habitat.
#AnimalFact: Coyotes change pitch while howling and add yips and barking-like sounds. This tends to make it sound like there are more individuals in the group than there really are.

How many coyotes do you think were down there?

Sometimes #GetOutside means getting into nature, spending time with birds and bugs and finding frogs. And sometimes it just means stepping out on your balcony or patio and spending time with the moon. taken in San Diego, California by @zoologyrick
