Thank you for coming out and supporting local music and pals! Playing music is so much more fun with an audience and life is so much more meaningful with the opportunity to be vulnerable and express ourselves. I’m sure each band member has their own reasons for performing but gosh, this was just a really fun time. @grapefruit.is.impossible is now officially one of my absolute favourite Victoria bands!! And Dan’s Hall one of my very favourite house concert venues! by @zoubimusic

BreakOut The Locals!
Thursday, October 1 | 6:00–9:00 PM
The Open Studios
All Ages
$10
FREE admission with a BreakOut West festival wristband
BreakOut West is coming to town, so we’re kicking things off with a night dedicated to some of Victoria’s own talented musicians.

BreakOut the Locals brings four local bands to The Open Studios for four 30-minute sets. It’s a sampler of the creative music being made right here in Victoria.

6:15 PM — Zoubi and The Sea
Soulful Folk Rock - Zoubi and The Sea blend grooves and poignant lyrics
into a sound that’s playful, expressive and unmistakably their own.

7:00 PM — Door D’Or
Atmospheric Melodic Grunge. Door D’Or brings textured guitars, raw
energy and a heavy, immersive sound built for the live stage. Fresh off
their new album release the band has hinted at presenting some fresh new
material!

7:45 PM — 3 Sailing Wait
Gritty Blues rock - Big guitars, driving rhythms and a rock backbone
give 3 Sailing Wait a powerful, kick ass live sound.

8:30 PM — Apex Breaks
Psychedelic Jungle Funk - A high-energy 9-piece combo that blends deep
grooves of psychedelic rock, drum and bass, classic funk and powerful
vocals into a dance-floor-electrifying live show.

Come discover some local favourites, catch four bands in one night, and
start your BreakOut West weekend at The Open Studios.
Doors: 6:00 PM
Music: 6:15–9:00 PM

FREE! All ages, wheelchair accessible, neurodivergent friendly (bring earplugs, sun protection, snacks and whatever else you need).

We’re very excited for this big show! Cam and I played Ship Point with many lovely band mates back in mm 2016? It was Vic Horvath (RIP my hero) on bass, Cam on keys and bass, Sade on drums and Any on sax. Feels good to step into a similar space and remember how things were, and feel how far we’ve come. I love playing music and feeling connected with my band and the friends who show up to support us. It is a privilege to live in a city who will not only provide a space for us to share the things that matter to us (music creation) but also pay us and a sound tech (and many other people) fairly to come together to make this happen. We are lucky to have this opportunity. We will do our best to show you a fun time! And I’ll do my best at being vulnerable and present. That may mean I’ll make mistakes and sing out of tune. I will prioritize singing from the heart even if that means veering away from my perception of perfection.
As ai’m writing this, I realize I must be a little nervous :) but that usually means I’m headed in the right direction I’m gearing up to brave playing a show with my band. Today we rehearse. The net is cast. Soon we leap. by @zoubimusic

Huge thank you to Gord at @butterfieldamps for fixing up this special tube amp. It sounds amazing and is now reliable enough to gig with again! Gord took the time to explain what he did and how -just because I asked. This amp is very dear to me. It was given to me by @tantanimal in high school! Dearest @vichorvathmusic infused it with magic while they babysat it for me for a number of years. Now it can continue to make music with me :)
