You might have outgrown your palmar grasp reflex, but you’ll always have a permanent hold on my heart. Happy 1st Birthday my sweet little monkey!

This first year of fatherhood has taught me so much about who I am. We survived the blur of waking up every two hours to feed you, and we navigated that sudden sleep regression around eight or nine months when you decided sleep was optional. Between the heavy demands of school and my clinical rotations, I felt the weight of time slipping away. I was missing too many of your firsts and those quiet developmental milestones.

So I made the choice to pull back on my running this year. The miles could wait, but your childhood wouldn’t. I have completely fallen in love with just being present with you. I want to spend every spare second making sure you know, without a shadow of a doubt, how deeply your dad loves you.

Around six months, babies begin to understand that they are separate individuals from their mothers. After 12 months, I think I’m finally beginning to understand that my daughter is her own little person, too. And that I’m merely a character in her story.

What started as trying to keep her healthy, happy, and growing has become learning when to step back and let her discover the world in her own way. So much growth happens in a baby’s first year, and it has been a privilege to witness it.

They say time passes in the blink of an eye, and I’ve spent this year trying so hard not to blink. I wish there were more hours in a day to memorize every detail of her, knowing how quickly they change. Sometimes, holding her, I think about the day she’ll no longer fit so perfectly in my arms. It’s bittersweet watching her grow into who she’s meant to be while wishing I could hold on to every version of her.

I hope she always runs to me when she’s hurt or upset and that she always looks at me with her big smile when something excites her, like she wants to share that excitement with me.

More than anything, I feel lucky to exist in the same time and space as Delilah. Of all the things I hope to accomplish, nothing matters more than making sure she grows up knowing how deeply she is loved.

August was an amazing month! From turning 28 to getting to surprise everyone with the news that our next little girl is arriving this December, this month was incredibly special.

My beautiful wife planned the ultimate birthday for me. We started the day with my favorite biscuits and gravy, then shared a massive tomahawk steak at The Remy, and capped off the night at a fun speakeasy.

Between celebrating our first daughter hitting 10 months, logging epic mountain miles with the boys, and flying back to Missouri for my 10-year high school reunion, it’s been a blur of miles, milestones, and memories. Nothing beats catching up with lifelong friends and family! by @100milebrown

Somehow secured 3rd overall in 3:39:39 at The Bulldog Ultra, Southern California’s oldest 50k. That is the 7th fastest time in race history. Honestly my Strava graph is pretty sad right now thanks to my clinical rotation, so your guess is as good as mine on how I pulled this off. I definitely paid the price for going out a little hot the first lap and cramped HARD the entire last 6 miles. Just absolute survival mode.

Super stoked I got to be there as my training partner @makai_clemons took the WIN and the CR! I knew he would do it since he drops me on every long run anyway and is stupid FIT!

Massive thanks to the wife for letting me take a road trip and bring home some cash. Now we gear up for AC 100. It will not be a perfect build, but I will be fighting the whole way.

Decided to switch gears and swap the ultra distance for some speed at the @socaltrail Tough Mugu 25K and man, what a blast.

A last minute decision meant a 2:30 AM wake up call and hitting the road by 3:00 AM with my little brother for a fun early morning road trip to the start line.

Racing a 25K is way outside my comfort zone since I would much rather be grinding out hundred miles, but it was an awesome chance to work on my weaknesses. Case in point: getting dropped about 3 miles in by a strong field on relentless single track! 😅

Hung in there and managed to cross the line in 4th place. Such a fun day testing the legs, suffering a bit on technical terrain, and making the trip down with my brother. Huge shoutout to @haimont for the gear that keeps crushing it in the heat.

Mission Trails 50K! 🥇

Taking the win in my own backyard just hits differently. With a 2 PM start time, the heat was absolutely brutal and made for a wild day out there. I was originally aiming to run a bit faster, but both of my adductors decided to take turns cramping for the entire second lap! 😅

Despite the cramp battle, I felt incredibly smooth early on. I decided to take the new Haimont singlet and half tights out for a true test run and they performed perfectly all day long. Shoutout to my sponsor 🙌🏽

Everything was going flawlessly until the final rocky descent where I took a pretty hard fall. I crossed the finish line with the win and a one way ticket to getting my wrist splinted! Luckily nothing is broken, so the grind does not stop.

Huge thank you to all my friends that showed up to cheer me on and to Jeff for bringing racing back to Mission Trails! The build to AC 100 continues 🔥😎

Raisa, you were truly born to be a mother.

Today holds so much more meaning now. I have always been grateful for my own mom, even when I was a rowdy teenager. But man, this past year I have grown such a profound appreciation for all mothers, my mom, and especially my beautiful wife who is the most incredible mother to our sweet Delilah.

Motherhood is not easy, but Isa makes it look effortless. Whether she is running on two hours of sleep, has had a massive day, or is not feeling her best, she still shows up for our baby with the biggest smile. She is the happiest mom because this is exactly what she was meant to do.

It is so beautiful to witness. I am incredibly blessed, and honestly, nothing in life makes me happier than seeing my wife radiate so much joy in motherhood.

But her strength started way before Delilah arrived. I was in awe watching Isa carry our baby while keeping our home together and absolutely smashing her NP program.

My wife is awesome. Delilah’s mom is awesome. Happy Mother’s Day, my love. ❤️

The Tejon Ranch 100k was easily one of the hardest races of my life. Between the puke and rally sessions and the full body tingling during miles 43 and 44, there was a moment I genuinely thought the ER was calling my name.

Being a new dad has taught me that “decent training” is a very relative term. I might not have had the perfect build. Honestly don’t even look at my weekly mileage going into this race, it’s embarrassing, but I had the best reason in the world to keep moving. I might have lacked the volume, but I had the heart to cover the gap.

Huge thank you to the RD @blindhund and @socaltrail for giving us the opportunity to experience the beauty of Tejon Ranch. It was an absolutely beautiful course even though it wrecked me. To the aid station volunteers, you all are so awesome, especially the ones that brought me back to life at mile 45. Also, the race photography is out of this world. All you photographers are so badass and I love all your work!

I’m beyond grateful for the crew and my pacer for helping me navigate those lows so I could rally for the finish and pull off a win. To anyone else out there just trying to fit it all in: keep showing up. It won’t always be pretty, but it is always worth it. 👶🥇
