Remember, recovery is a process—it’s your unique journey, and there’s absolutely no need to rush. Try to stay completely focused on the exact step you are on right now. When we get hasty and try to sprint through the steps, we miss out on building a solid foundation for our sobriety. Think of it like building a house: you can’t start framing the walls while the concrete foundation is still wet. by @12_steps2freedom

This toxic belief that we are inherently "bad people" isolates us from others, yet it is a widespread experience rooted in trauma and the disease of addiction rather than a true reflection of our worth. Often, experiences like neglect, physical, emotional, or sexual abuse, abandonment, or growing up in a dysfunctional family instill this profound sense of shame, causing children to internalize the blame for things beyond their control. by @12_steps2freedom

On page 62 of the Big Book, Bill Wilson states that selfishness and self-centeredness are the root of our problem. From this core selfishness stems fear, which subsequently drives dishonesty and often leads to unhealthy sexual behaviors and relationship issues.

This progression illustrates exactly how we get to the root of our problem. By looking at the various forms of the self—such as asking, "Where have we been selfish?"—we are actively exploring the exact nature of our problem. by @12_steps2freedom

By doing this deep step work to understand how we are built—and courageously facing the truth—we gain the power to consciously manage and modify our behavior.

The ultimate purpose of this self-examination goes beyond basic self-help; it is about knowing better so we can do better, become better human beings, and ultimately learn to admire ourselves. by @12_steps2freedom

Holding onto resentment for months, years, or decades is deeply destructive. It acts like acid, causing fatal damage to your physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being. To heal from this deep resentment, the Big Book suggests a specific prayer practice focused on your own recovery. by @12_steps2freedom

In Column 3, our primary objective is to identify and challenge our core beliefs to determine if they are realistic or merely delusions and lies. To approach this with an open mind, you can uncover your hidden beliefs by identifying the "shoulds" in your thinking—such as how you, others, or the world "should" behave. by @12_steps2freedom

We need the help of a power greater than ourselves to find freedom from our self imprisonment. We looked at our resentments, made a list, checked it twice, looked at our reasons and there might have been multiple reasons for each individual. by @12_steps2freedom

Severe and obvious misbehavior represents only a fraction of the injuries we inflict on others. To truly understand our impact, we must examine the subtler character flaws that can be just as destructive to those around us. Within our own homes, we may have been financially miserly, emotionally irresponsible, unfeeling, or cold. by @12_steps2freedom

Our fundamental human nature is to be helpful, even to complete strangers. We might not have the capacity to physically help every single person we encounter, but our Higher Power will always guide us to a place where we can view each one of them through a lens of kindness and love. by @12_steps2freedom
