POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
So I’ve always shied away from posting Bharatanatyam clips online because the idea of posting ‘imperfect’ videos of a ‘classical’ form made me feel anxious (original, I know). 🤪

More importantly I internalised the belief that I’m not a proper Bharatanatyam dancer ! To the point for the last 5 years I’ve always explained my professional practice as a Contemporary practitioner with roots in Bharatanatyam…but that’s for a whole other story.

And yet I get offended when people don’t realise I AM a professional Bharatanatyam dancer, it just doesn’t look like what people think it may…

Growing up I was always told that Bharatanatyam is my way of connecting with my ‘Indian heritage’. But I never felt that this beautiful dance form from South India (Tamil Nadu) was helping me connect with being Bengali. Because shocker.. all of Indian culture is not homogenous.

But what I’ve always loved is how Bharatanatyam makes me feel like I’m flying, how it helped me connect with spirituality through physicality. I love the discipline and dedication required to try and perfect something. I love the dance families I gained along the way and I love who I am when I dance Bharatanatyam.

And so after 5 years of being scared to enter a deeper, more vigorous and proper training..I started again. Through that process I love how it is deepening my understanding of being a woman, I love how it always teaches me to question why. I love how it’s teaching me to unlearn and not hold onto my ‘habitus’

But beyond that I love how it still makes me feel the same way it did when I first started 19 years ago.

This is a Jathi that @seetapateldance had created !

Soo…more posting of my Bharatanatyam journey in 2026?? 🤷🏽‍♀️ by @_aishanighosh

Dancing around Hampton Court Palace 🌹

Been thinking a lot about how fear and curiosity cannot co-exist in the brain neuro-biologically. So if we are feeling fear, can we take a step back and replace it with curiosity ?

So I decided to f**k it and dance in the palace where Indian Army soldiers once camped in the early 20th Century. The forgotten story of these soldiers is currently on exhibition #hamptoncourtpalace taken in Hampton Court Palace by @_aishanighosh

Very happy to share that Shivani Kokkonda (@shiv_anikokkonda) and I will be exhibiting Dancing Lady, after Jamini Roy at Critical Costume 2026, taking place at London College of Fashion from 9–11 September.

Developed in response to Jamini Roy’s Dancing Lady, the project explores the relationship between material, body and memory, translating costume and embodied performance into digital space through photogrammetry and immersive media.

At its centre is a sari developed through the project’s textile practice and activated through performance, then reinterpreted through digital capture, spatial storytelling and immersive media.

Looking forward to sharing the work again, and to seeing it within a wider programme thinking critically about costume, technology, embodiment and representation.

Optics
A dance film available to watch on Sadlers wells digital stage , choreographed by Anjana Balal.

“This poignant film is a contemporary South Asian dance work that draws upon Indian classical rhythms, shapes, and geometries. Created by dance artist and anthropologist Anjana Bala alongside talented collaborators, the film uses optics as a metaphor for visibility, exploring how we pursue it and the emotional consequences it entails.” - Sadlers Wells Digital Stage by @_aishanighosh

4th August 2026 - Sports Day 🏅

MAULETI came together with @ldnadavu for a light hearted (mostly) sports day!!

What a fun evening full of laughter , good vibes and lots of competition!! Thank you to everyone who came to have an amazing time with us on a Tuesday evening !

It’s such a joy to bring people together from all walks of life and just have a fun evening. People just reconnecting with their inner child while outside connecting with their bodies in nature the way it’s meant to be!

While sports and art are often in separate categories the level of skill, dedication, passion and love required to do both always made me connect to both! So what better way to bring both my loves together for our second event ! A whole evening of creative sports relays, an intense match of rounders, lots of volleyball relays and many other made up games 🏐

Thank you to everyone at the @ldnadavu team for helping make my vision come to life and @ami_jay for doing this with me 🤍
