“To live this world a better place than I met it”- a guest at The Journey Lagos on what she was made for 🫶🏻We held our first exhibition in Lagos a few days ago and we have been in awe of the experience. Sitting down and looking at all the beautiful memories that were created and shared truly brings so much joy and gives us the confidence to keep building. We asked you to come see a body of work that was created around a very profound existential question of finding purpose and you guys came and shared and made the evening beautiful. We can now say The Journey has found home in your hearts here in Lagos A very big thanks to everyone who made this possible behind the scenes @dara_banjo for helping with the curation and also sharing her beautiful work with us, @bzz_herz for sitting on business and ensuring that this was a success, @shalewa_junaid for creatively working behind the scenes to bring the displays to life and to @atirira_gallery for opening up their doors to us and giving us our first home here in Lagos.Our family @121selah it was entirely your show@maiomusic_ @thesilentpoet__ & @greymartyr thank you so so much for serenading us with your gifts. I Do Not Photograph For YouSomeone asked, “What would you do, if money wasn’t a major determinant in what you love?” And off the top of my head I know that what makes me earn the name Storyteller, is going out and actually hearing the actual stories that exist around me. And this year I’m hoping to do just that a bit more. As the year progresses I intend to use my photography to give voice to these stories, what I’m seeking may not exactly be elegant or social media worthy and it might not exactly appeal to everyone here, but there are people who have gone through life and have gained perspectives and stories that might be treasure to others. So, understand this now, I DO NOT PHOTOGRAPH FOR YOU.I’m open to assignments on documentary trips and also collaborations with NGOs and bodies who are involved with humanitarian work in and outside the country.So while I wait, I’ll follow what my good friend @taiwoaina_ will say , “go out and shoot”With Love,The Storyteller. by @_dstoryteller

Differences 2023_______________A vitiligo story.Essentially, what changed for me that sparked everything I am now was that “my difference met acceptance” and I’ve wondered how it is for people who have had their own differences stare them in the face. In my small time, I’ve learned that struggling with our differences can be daunting, and even while for some people, differences can be hidden maybe because it’s mental or character traits, for others it can be very glaring. @_cathy__stowe story was really interesting, I honestly wish I recorded it(something I hope to incorporate in my shoots in 2024) and hearing her just share how her life took a turn at the first appearance of her vitiligo was insightful for me. I could relate because somehow for me it reminded me of how uniquely different we are and how no two people can have the same story or paths. No one is better than the other, we are just different and I hope we find strength in our own differences ________________An excerpt from The Journey Exhibition @thejourneynomad by @_dstoryteller

How did we get here? Really, that would be a genuine question from 6 year old me. Birthdays, tend to come with all their reflections and honestly? It’s a beautiful thing to look back at every turn in the journey from two decades ago. You see now, a storyteller, but he once painted, sang, wrote. And while, I ask myself and marvel at how much I’ve evolved I can’t help but say this song? Behind the scenes of creating Market Hues with @limahkerry It’s was perfect time to flex the muscles on the XH2, I recently snagged. And I agree with one creator on YouTube that said, Fuji cameras are inspiring. 🫶🏻anyways I’ll keep experimenting and pushing the limits, but I wil not enter rain again I promise before my brother @thevictorozor arrests me for endangering the camera 😂😂 by @_dstoryteller

Market Hues 💛with @limahkerry Lagos, Nigeria.the market doesn’t stage itself. it just waits for someone to walk into its light.for the final chapter of contrasts, i traded the studio walls for lagos itself, no backdrop, no controlled falloff, just a stall full of tomatoes and pawpaw and a woman dressed like she grew out of the fruit around her. the same questions the series has been asking all along — what is offering, what is ornament, who gets painted and who gets photographed — answered here by daylight instead of studio strobes.gold at the ears. gold at the wrist. a dress the color of everything stacked behind her. this was never about contrast as opposition. it was always about what happens when two things that shouldn’t belong together turn out to share a frame perfectly.contrasts 001 — closed, not finished.Side note: really glad with how the colors out of the Fujifilm XH2 have been coming out so far @fujifilmnigeria @fujifilmme Makeup : @teau.uty Creative Direction & photography @_dstoryteller Styling & Outfit @limahkerry by @_dstoryteller

every project i make is supposed to mean something. supposed to witness, document, justify itself by what it says about the world.But, this one doesn’t carry that weight, and i’m finding out what that absence feels like.I think for me, going back to just experimenting means, no urgency, no proof required. just a subject, an object , a few hours in a room, and the discipline of paying attention without an agenda attached to it.i think i needed to remember that making can be its own reason. that not every frame has to argue for its existence.contrasts continues — an inquiry into making and experiment.In frame : @faerelith_ 📍 @bokerstudio With @iamemmages by @_dstoryteller
