Sad to announce that Jake will be leaving Eathouse after being with the collective for the last 5 years. He has decided focus on other parts of his practice.

Having been with the collective since it started in 2020 he was an integral organiser of many projects. From our first kitchen takeover at Paviljoen aan het Water to initiating our event series with Kunstinstiuut Melly. Highlights included Eathouse’s residency at Lemon House, Kassel where they cooked at ‘PAKGHOR the social kitchen’ during documenta fifteen and hosting Tongue Twisting Dinners at an other world project space.

Here’s to the many late night dishwashing escapades and deadline crunching funding application sessions. We wish Jake the best of luck for the future!

Vlada in Montserrat, Barcelona! ☀️

Eathouse spent the month of August in El Bruc at the foothill of Montserrat. We shared our practices with the Can Serrat residents and gave workshops while working on our publication project.

The majestic rocks of Montserrat, the warm sunshine, the smell of dry pine needles, the taste of fresh figs and grapes, and the amazing people we shared the house with energised us. We are endlessly grateful for this time. 🌸💫

And this post is dedicated to Vlada’s time in the programme. So what did she do with her time at @canserrat ?
- Organised a dumpling (pelmeni & vareniki) workshop 🥟
- Cooked dolma together with together with her EH colleagues @mervekilicerstudio and @ulufercelik 🫑
- Cooked communal meals and breakfast pancakes 🥞
- Dried apples in the hot Catalan sun just like her great-aunt used to do 🍏
- Picked wild oregano, thyme and rosemary 🌿
- Drew agave on a hilltop 💚
- Learned how to cook the best Lebanese Kibbeh with the guidance of @elydaou 🤤
- Learned printmaking techniques with guidance of Merve and @victoriacayre 🖨️
- Experimented with making ceramic spoons 🥄
- Ran and got lost in the mountains ⛰️
- Danced in the thunderstorm ⛈️
- Hiked to Collbató and tried hands down the best churros there! 🍫

And this post is dedicated to Ulufer’s time in the programme. She organized a dolma workshop together with @mervekilicerstudio and @vpredelina ✨ She experimented with the eagle print on linoleum through Merve’s guidance. She also recorded sound and prepared a wedding cake for @cliogevirtz and @sebastiankleppe ‘s movie. Ulufer also played drum, and flute and made people sing! And this post is dedicated to Merve’s time in the programme. She organized a printmaking workshop in collaboration with @victoriacayre ✨ who shared methods of kitchen litography while Merve showed how to make monoprints with a printing press. Merve and @soy_glgh collected sun touched rosehips from the garden and made a delicious marmelate. @ulufercelik and Merve played drums and sung along shooting stars and @vpredelina drew them. We were bunch of artists from Rotterdam who were invited to discover the city and connect with artists, studios, collectives, project spaces and communities. Last month we had the pleasure of cooking for a networking dinner @nieuweinstituut

The dinner, ‘Sharing continuity: Past, present and future design legacies between Indonesia and the Netherlands’ was in preparation for an upcoming conference at the Nieuwe Instituut in the fall with partners gudskul, Museum Het Schip and Dutch Culture.

🍲 We cooked a three course menu featuring spicy pumpkin soup to start, a vegan jackfruit stew alongside a chicory and winter purslane salad as the main and a delicious lemon and turmeric tart for dessert. 🍽

Thanks to Nieuwe Instituut for inviting us and all the lovely compliments we had about the food!

At the beginning of this month we cooked up over 200 portions of soup for My Oma opening @kunstinstituutmelly ! 🌸

To stay with the grandmother theme we asked Ulufer and Merve to share their grandma’s recipes for Mercimek Çorbası 👵🏼 👵🏼

Instead of choosing one, we made a combination of both to make the ultimate classic Turkish lentil soup. We topped it with a squeeze of lemon, parsley, and homemade heartwarming chilli oil 🌶️

Hello from the kitchen of @de_appel !

Last month we were invited to cook lunch for over 20 arts organisations from all corners of the world for the annual gathering of Arts Collaboratory @arts_collab

We made:
🥄 Hearty Bean and Butternut squash soup topped with yoghurt, fresh chillies, spring onions and lime served with bread and tortilla chips

🍏 Mizuna and apple salad with mustard dressing, seeds and cranberries

It was really amazing to meet all the participants and to cook at the old iconic location of De Appel! Thanks to @whereiscasco for the invitation!

We also want to take this opportunity to tell you all that as of this year, we cook using using local, fresh organic seasonal vegetables from the farmers of @landzicht_biologisch and we take inspiration from recipes collected over the years shared by our families and invited guests.

If you have an idea for a themed dinner or a healthy lunch, or a tasty snack - we are happy to help!

A few weeks we organised a beautiful dinner for the closure of ‘Strategies for Tactical Archives’ conference that took place @nieuweinstituut with @schulmanny as the keynote speaker.
We hosted the dinner in the middle of a natural reserve next to the Maas at the magical space of @buitenplaatsbrienenoord 🌳

We cooked:
🔼 Amuse bouche: Pink hummus triangle bites
🌈 Starter: Sauteed rainbow chard w/ split peas
🍆Main: Ajapsandali w/ baby potatoes, adjika sauce and mizuna apple salad
🌶️Dessert: Spiced dark chocolate tart

We spoke about the work of ACT UP, queer archives, daily resistance during the time of personal and political mess.
We ended the evening by listening to a recording of @f__choir 💘
(Jake & Vlada were members of F*choir when they lived in London, and in a way will always be)

Eathouse joins the global strike for Palestine on 20th of October. We are in grief and mourning for the innocent lives lost. The war crimes of the Israeli government are unacceptable. We invite all artists, culture workers and art institutions to join the strike in solidarity with Palestine.

We believe in the freedom of the Palestinian people.
