On the final day of ‘未生 THE UNBORN’, we invite you to a closing acoustic rite by artist Enbo Chen and Siiri Varis. Through the frequencies of singing bowls and the bamboo flute, we close this chapter to make way for rebirth. Sunday June 7 at 3 PM. Fringe Gallery, Vaasa.

In his exhibition ‘未生 THE UNBORN’, Enbo Chen reflects on absence, unrealized existence, and the ontological friction between what is allowed to emerge and what remains permanently unseen. The exhibition is a project that serves as a belated confession, mourning the truncated existence of all living beings: human, animals, plants, even stone, whose potential was severed before it could begin. The work manifests through experimental approaches: elm seeds are utilized as organic negatives for direct darkroom enlargement, while transparent 3D-printed objects are exposed onto X-ray film.

Enbo Chen (b. 1990, China) is a Helsinki-based artist interrogating the ontological friction between organic impulse and industrial logic. Drawing on a background in robotics and mechanical engineering, Enbo bridges analog darkroom processes and 3D printing to construct ritualistic environments that negotiate the interstitiality between 2D and 3D dimensions. By integrating death whistles as psychoacoustic devices in performance.

Artist and performer Enbo Chen shared insights into his artistic practice, which explores the tensions between organic life, technology, memory, and mourning through performance, photography, and sculptural processes.

In his exhibition ‘未生 THE UNBORN’, Enbo Chen reflects on absence, unrealized existence, and the ontological friction between what is allowed to emerge and what remains permanently unseen. When boundary between “existence” and the “unborn” is fundamentally destabilized, whose presence remains eternally felt within the folds of our reality?

At the opening, Enbo will perform a commemorative rite, where the affective device and the flesh, the natural and the artificial, sound and silence, dissonance and resonance, converge to grant the unborn a psychoacoustic hyper-presence.

父亲曾是理发师，从小到大，理发便是我们之间最沉默也最亲密的纽带。自从来芬兰后，我早已习惯了对镜自理，但这次当他跨越重洋而来，我又重新坐在他面前。

去年夏天，他在这住了三个月。期间虽有龃龉，但他最终留下了两把亲手制作的Steltman Chairs。两张椅子互为镜像，象征一种互补的统一。 by @_obne_
