The WonderMask Pilgrimage -2025Presented at the @chicagoculturalcenter Part of Potential Energy: Chicago Puppets Up Close Curated by Grace Needleman and Will Bishop In collaboration with the @chipuppetfest The WonderMask Pilgrimage is a processional performance born from a mask making workshop at @agitatorgallery thinking on ancestral rituals with contemporary public urban interventions.Rooted in ancestral cosmologies these deities of cardboard, tape, and paint started the pilgrimage that traversed the city’s cultural landmarks by train. The spirits made them selves visible for a day.At each site, the procession paused for acts of symbolic offering, raising masks for the gone ones, dancing to stop the storms, turning city spaces into sacred ground. The masks, more than costumes, become guides embodying joy, and nature. The masks featured in the performance were created during the Studio Sundays Mask-Making Workshop led by @a.galue where participants designed their own mythical beings. These collaborative creations brought diverse voices and spirits to life within the pilgrimage.— Mask & Characters Creators@miketriplitt – The Crying Coyote@roelephantom – Roele PhantomGeorge Larson – @lardomoney Tony Maugeri – Crow maker@jay_eye_guzzle – The Spirit of Tragedy@itswendymadrigal – Bunny@a.galue – Bochica, The ProphetAlma Roccella – The Baby Monster-PerformersGeorge Larson – LardoMike Tripllit – The Crying Coyote@ericiswhonow – The Crying CoyoteBenji Rivera – Roele Phantom@yeisonartvzla – The Trickster GodJason Greenberg – The Spirit of TragedyWendy Madrigal – BunnyAlonso Galue – Bochica@lunaxrail - CrowThe WonderMask Pilgrimage was presented as part of Potential Energy: Chicago Puppets Up Close, curated by @graceneedlman and @willbishopchicago , coordinated by @shwatcat , and co-presented by the Chicago International Puppet Theater Festival at @chicagoculturalcenter #puppets #mask #performance #urbanart #ancestral by @a.galue

Push-On: The Prophet of the Extra LifeArtist: Alonso Galue @a.galuePush-On: The Prophet of the Extra Life, a public presentation of functioning pinball machines transformed into altars for renewal and the possibility of an extra life.A 1975 Williams pinball machine reimagined as a sacred object, an altar inviting us to pause in the random motion of existence. The pinball becomes a metaphor for life itself: we guide the steel ball, fighting to keep it on the board, knowing it will eventually fall. When the game ends, we await the impulse, the Push-On that returns us to play. A new deity reminds us that the game is never truly over. The work weaves Andean myth, sacred fauna, and ancestral landscapes from the Timotocuica and Tairona civilizations (Mérida, Venezuela & Santa Marta, Colombia) into dialogue with post-industrial Chicago pinball culture. Interactive sculptures breathe within painted paper where the planet pulses through geological formations animated by sacred snakes, condors, tapirs (dantas), and Frontino bears, beings that walk among us as water, wind, mist, stars, and trees. Born from the Venezuelan exodus and 21st-century exile, these pieces embody a new syncretism: post-global, border-blurred creations rooted in reviving lands. by @a.galue

The Flip: Chicago’s Playable Pinball Museum is now open to the public! ☄️✨Step into the evolution of fun through pinball going from a Bagatelle table from the 1800s, to electro-mechanical Chicago-made machines of the 1940s, iconic collaborations like Ed Paschke’s 1980s pinball, and meet Push-On: The Prophets of the Extra-Life by Alonso Galue. This functional pinball altar and mural installation dives into themes of continuation, possibility, and existing between forces beyond our control. In this almost meditative game, the steel ball becomes a metaphor for the human journey. Surrounding elements feature condors, snakes, and nature spirits; the board is engraved with cloud shapes, offering a bird’s-eye view of an ancient world. The figures draw inspiration from sculptures in the collections of @museodeloro (Bogotá) and Museo Arqueológico de Mérida @museoarqueologicoula (Venezuela).Condors a recurring motif represent the sacred bird connecting gods and humans. El Mohan, the religious leader of native Andean Venezuelans, would transform into a condor to receive divine messages and bring them back to the people. Now transformed into a living altar, Push-On connects the gods we carry with the new worlds that received us. It’s a powerful example of union and the birth of new syncretisms in our communities. The machine links directly to a mural through an outlet hole, as if drawing energy from a painted landscape where an ancient snake, older than language, shapes mountains, creates rivers, and builds life.Visitors stand for a moment in the space between the ancient, the mechanical, nature, and urbanity.Museum Hours:Monday – Saturday: 10:00 AM – 8:00 PMSunday: 11:00 AM – 6:00 PMPrivate tours by appointment only📍 @blockthirtyseven – Lower Level, 108 N State St #15, Chicago, IL 60602Come experience Push-On and play through history! 🔥@theflipchicago @a.galuePush-On is possible thanks to the generous support of the @ignitefundchi @3artschicago @warholfoundation #TheFlipChicago #PushOnTheProphet AlonsoGalue PinballMuseum AndeanSyncretism by @a.galue
