We are truly humbled to receive this award. Given how quickly the Malaysian dining scene is growing, we feel privileged to be part of such a dynamic industry.

This milestone belongs to everyone, from the farmers who provide our produce to our hardworking chefs, our front-of-house team, and our supportive, generous customers.

We see this honor as a promise to you all.

I’ve made so many mistakes in my career that, at one point, I felt I might be in the wrong industry. For the most part, I just got lost in the work and kept going. I kept my head down and stayed at it, even though I knew I wasn’t where I wanted to be yet.

I am, more often than not, my own worst enemy. Some of you know how hard I am on myself, and I’m unapologetic about it. So, when I hear the words ‘Chef of the Year’, it’s hard for me to believe I deserve this. Honestly, I don’t think I earned it, at least, not on my own.

To everyone at the restaurant:
Thank you for everything you’ve done, giving your all to the vision and finding joy in what we do every day.
Thank you for letting me fail, again and again, so I could get back up and try harder, and do better.
I am deeply grateful for everything you do, because without all of you, none of this would have been possible. Without your commitment and compassion, we wouldn’t have made it this far.

To God,
I may sound harsh, but
Thank you for making me suffer more than necessary, before it becomes a necessity.

Thank you @feedingamanda for shining light on us. You have a heart of a gem for people, also congratulations on your new role.

Noodles that taste like home, just better than you remember. 🍜✨

We finally made it to Fifty Tales, the modern Malaysian Chinese spot everyone in KL keeps talking about. Even @katfewd was raving about it.

Handmade noodles, bold broths, and old family flavours dressed up for a new generation.
Tiny room, massive flavour. Worth every trip to this spot.

Huge thanks to our MY industry friends who have made the KL trip extra warm and fun and dragged us to this spot. @akhaltek @aidanlowyx @nicolesiewpao @ngyishaun @gigileow @bensonchang @veryveryverybigburger2.0

Bought this 29 year old car last year, for a cheap price and did it up for the next few months for it to be ready for the @malayanxpedition .

I was slightly nervous at the start of the trip, because it is the first time I brought this car out with me to the jungle and it is an old car, which a few characteristics that I am still getting myself familiar with.

All while carrying a full load at the back, with 3 full grown passengers and myself. To my own surprise, the car did very well, manoeuvring into the wild. Then again, i shouldn’t be surprised, it is a Toyota. #toyotalandcruiserprado .

And also with the help with Ah Heng from HY Auto, the car now drives like a dream.

It also ended up being a small support car, by lending a hand to two cars being stuck. Lending my battery power to another LC100 and lending my spare tyre to another Prado. So in that way, it gave more than I expected it to give. Good on you, Terung (the unofficial name as the colour of my car is the same as an eggplant) 🤣 taken in Pahang, Malaysia by @aarondotk

Fiancée and I went off-roading to go off-grid.
We went from Subang -> Jerantut -> Kuala Sat -> Ulu Tembeling -> Cherating.

Another year, another MX Expedition to travel into the wild.

The campsite of a few dozen cars by the riverbank.

This is one of my favourite ways to enjoy the river. Setting up a camp chair, and sitting in the middle of it, while the waters run through your feet. If it was raining, that would be the best.

Camp food made simple and easy. Off grid where there’s close to nothing really forces you to see the simple things and small moments with a different perspective.

Many of you loved my previous Mi Sedaap Potato Rosti recipe, so I decided to give it a local upgrade and created the Mi Sedaap Rosti O’Chien.

This version features my twist with Mi Sedaap Goreng Asli as the star. The springy noodles made with imported flour from Canada & Australia, combined with juicy oysters, crispy sweet potato & carrot pancake, and topped off with the Signature Bawang Goreng Kriuk Kriuk, make every single bite so satisfying!
