Painterbot: a combination of robotics, computer vision, and machine learning for human-machine collaborative art.

First the human paints some blobs. Computer vision allows the machine to detect the blobs and their positions on the machine. Machine learning let's the machine classify what the blob is, in this case a variety of flowers. Then draws the flower over the blob.

All done in #grasshopper3d thanks to the Firefly plugin by Andy Payne and @futureformslab for computer vision and machine control, the Quickdrawgh plugin by @jaymezd for the drawing dataset, and machine learning using the Crow plugin by Benjamin Felbrich. by @aaronpdesign

How do we optimize the thickness of lattice structures? There are algorithms such as BESO, which is similar to topology optimization, but focused on beam and shell elements which will give different results than a typical topology optimization meant for solid elements.

Are you ready for more training? I have spent the last month developing an online course about simulating lattice structures with Millipede. The course is focused more on design, less about engineering. It is intended for those with little experience in FEA. What's the difference between topology optimization and beam or shell optimization? The results will be quite different whether you are optimizing a solid model with bulk material properties or a lattice structure.
