Starting today I have joined the Kiran Nadar Museum of Art in New Delhi, India, as an Assistant Curator of Visual Art.

KNMA’s projects and programs have been inspirational and impactful to say the least, not just in my life but throughout India and beyond. I deeply believe in the museum and Chairperson Kiran Nadar’s vision and call to action, bringing art to the public. Engaging them, involving them.

I have always held to my heart this quote from artist Satish Gujral, that art is a language that should be spoken in public spaces. In the years to come I will be proud to say that I stood with those who made this their mission in our country and elsewhere. Right now I am excited for the work at hand, and eager to get going.

I’m all in.

Thank you Deepanjana Klein, Roobina Karode, Akansha Rastogi, Avijna Bhattacharya, Premjish Achari for trusting me.

Thanks to Jayeeta Bagchi, my mother. Amitava Malakar, my father. Barnita Bagchi, Nandini Lahiri, Amitava Ganguly, David X Levine, Budhaditya and Prokriti, Arvind and Mona.

At Kala Bhavana, thank you R Sivakumar for believing in me. Arpan Mukherjee, Santhosh Sakinala, Sanchayan Ghosh.

Thanks also to SVA’s MA Curatorial Practice under Steven Henry Madoff and Isin Onol. Nicolas Garrera-Tolbert, Sara Reisman, Brian Kuan Wood, Christina Yang, Daniel Kunitz, Carolina Rito, Ruth Estevez. Special thanks to Jovanna Venegas.

To SAVVY Contemporary—everyone who has ever been a part of it and helped keep that space alive.

To SVA Galleries Zoe Evans, Evan Peltzman, Michael Dondero, Fana Feng, Tyson and Annabelle and the ENTIRE team.

To IMPULSE Magazine. Xuezhu Jenny Wang, Jubilee Park, Viktoria Reshetnikov, Meinzer.

Admiring some lovely scones in the most beautiful garden I have ever been in—and don’t worry, I had my fill, followed by madeleines, chocolates, cake, and mochi.

What a surreal pleasure and a privilege it has been these last four days to see and learn from being on the scene of what is one of the historically crucial moments in Indian and South Asian art.

Can’t say enough good things about the team at @knmaindia and how proud and honored I am to be working among such amazing people.

So much to look forward to.

Thank you. taken in London, United Kingdom by @abbasmalakar

Waiting to get things signed… running around… measuring ruins… not all great moments, and not all ideal results, but loving every moment, and enjoying beautiful days in October.

Still a lot of October left.

Sharing a wonderful moment with our Chairperson Mrs Kiran Nadar @kiran_nadar and our CEO Manuel Rabate @rbtmanuel after a walkthrough of Inheritors of Earth curated by Premjish Achari @thepartialprofile

Look how happy we are. I have not posted enough images of this show. So grateful to be part of such a big production—so many people to thank. Much more to come.

My thanks to everyone who was present—and for anyone who doesn’t know, it takes hundreds of people each day to run an exhibition. One can never thank everyone at once, but one can sure try, every day, every time an opportunity presents itself.

Come see the show at @knmaindia KNMA, Saket !!!!

“Virasat” has been one of the best experiences of my life.

My being an employee of @knmaindia , you may read this as a biased review, but the aspects of my life which this play has touched and violently shaken far surpass any matter of professional consideration. They are tangentially primal and emotional around the core of what is my most inner self—what makes me “me.”

I’ve had some grand life-changing moments pass me by, although some have kicked me in the face, but never have they been outlined and emphasized the way that this play made me feel. I was on the verge of breaking down as the weight of four generations of sorrows and joys pressed down through each actor in each dialog, scene by scene.

My life, evidently, hasn’t changed in the day and a half since I had the privilege of seeing the dress rehearsal, but many moments I had forgotten, overlooked, or misunderstood in my life and in the lives of those around me have come back to me. Some of them have been unwelcome, others will change the way I narrated my life moving forward.

My profession and position may allow me the incredible joy of such events, but it doesn’t allow me to then spend the following day hiding my face in my pillow and crying about how good it made me feel. My realizations, thus pending, will hopefully come to me in the coming weeks as I wrestle with having had this magical three hour journey through hopes, dreams, and devastating consequences of life happening around us.

Today was a layer of frosted icing and cherries listening to director Anuradha Kapur and writer Mahesh Elkunchwar in conversation with Ashutosh Potdar—from inception to production, thinking, writing, acting, making, it has all become so much clearer.

Congratulations to the team that made this possible @jijojose06 @guptasandhi @aditijj @avali_z @riddhar @eshanara @deepansivaraman @ashupotdar

Khoj @khojstudios is right across the street.

The kind of work that is shown and celebrated at Khoj is not the kind of work I am generally interested in. It’s not work that I readily understand or am keen to do exhibitions about. I remember digital art was my least favorite thing to study in my MA. The hardest for me to grasp in my own art practice during my BFA.

I really like Khoj though, and I always end up liking the artists there. I love the energy, the enthusiasm, the complex and discursive nature of their artistic enquiries. I love seeing how it happens, who does it, and why.

I’ve been there a few times now. All very passionate people, doing very good work. It’s reassuring to see such a space be so lively, inviting, and encouraging. taken in Khoj International Artists' Association by @abbasmalakar

I made a spontaneous and impulsive decision to go to Mumbai last Saturday and that same evening I went to a walkthrough of Salik’s @words_and_images show at Six Continuum @six.continuum

The show “Lightly, Lightly” curated by artist Salik Ansari is an education in how to bring artists together, and a must see for anyone and everyone in Mumbai. I am glad I caught the walkthrough, and very happy to have seen the space.

The two artists currently being shown are incredible. The depth and scale of @krishishahart Krishi’s paintings are perfectly balanced by the intensity and weight of @deepak_k_agasthya Deepak’s meditative and repetitive drawings. Having been seeing Nasreen Mohamedi and Bice Lazzari’s work this past few weeks, I couldn’t but make associations. So much is present in their works for any keen explorer of visual languages and yet in many ways they are formally minimalist. There is a lightness in both as the title suggests, although of very different kinds.

Believe me, you won’t get bored.

The handout brochure they’ve produced is definitely one of the best I have ever seen: designed by Sibya @sibya.r

I missed the opening of Six Continuum, and I missed their first two shows but it is exactly the kind of space I love to see in the art world: caring, welcoming, warm, and aggressively pushing the artists under their umbrella. Also, amazing merchandise—so looking forward to getting some very soon.

Thank you for your hospitality @farahsiddiquikhan @abhinit_khanna @currynricegirl @urjjashah

Looking forward to what you do next. taken in Mumbai - मुंबई by @abbasmalakar

“No one comes to Mumbai to relax.” Said @calmseykaam but at the same time it was such a relaxing evening, no? Good calm food, soothing drinks. No noise.

Lots of drinking, food, noisy places and smelly streets did precede and follow. Wrong weekend to look at art though, but I did catch a few shows.

@experimenterkol ‘s @chanakya.school show and a beautiful show on JJ school and modernism curated by @mortchatterjee and Tasneem Zakaria Mehta, both at the Dr Bhau Daji Lad.

Dropped into @strangershousegallery as well and had a good meal at Ling’s Pavilion.

Caught the @vyomasura show at @artandcharlie

Just remembered I am the mayor of pizza town, as dubbed by the wise young @davidxlevine

It’s been a year and some days, and I can’t say I’ve taken much responsibility towards that role. I do drink my office coffees out of that @ninomiergallery cup though.

Wasn’t I just saying I’m tired of pizzas?

Alive and well, and might get a pizza soon.
