Alternative Suffolk 2/100 - Ben Driver

I never chose to be alternative, to be unconventional or go against the grain. The more I learn about myself, the more I pursue the things which make me feel whole, the more out of the box I seem to become. Being alternative is just a way of saying to myself, yes you’re a quirky weirdo, but you’re just trying to navigate a world of pre-historic convention and normies in a way that brings about the most resilient joy.

The way I express my alternativeness will forever evolve, that’s the beauty of it. It is kaleidoscopic. All the component parts are me, they just make new shapes, colours and patterns at different times in life. And along that path I get to meet other beautiful people who are doing similar things; challenging the norm, pursuing a life that is true to them.

Alternative culture is full of inspiration, expression and truth. Once you’ve stepped into it, there is no other way to live.

DANCE CAMP EAST 2025 ✨️✨️✨️

My experience of DCE last year was magickal. I spent a few days soaking up all manner of holistic wonders, a true sense of connection and community, healing and stepping into one's sense of being and belonging.

This is a snapshot of my time there. And I'm soon to be back in the fields reconnecting with the home I found in the people I met, and expanding upon that community. On top of that I return as a healer, offering acu-sound therapy to those that wish to step into sound healing.

What this reel doesnt truly show is all the beautiful people I met, all the experiences of breathwork, meditation and much more I was fortunate enough to be a part of. Thank you everyone who made last year so wonderful. I look forward to seeing you all again.

Tickets are still available for this year's festival. Head to the link in my bio for full festival details. Come along, I'd love to see you create your own journey there. Maybe we carve out a path together.

All the loves,
🙌🏼❤️✨️ by @abitofquirk

Not long now until im back with @manup.how going up an English mountain... here are some photos I took last time with disposable cameras... ad hoc shooting in between boot-steps and inconsistent breaths, the ever evolving skies above and the fragile ground below...

These moments are an opportunity to get folks together to connect with one another, the natural world and ourselves. Escaping the norm to reset and find a little relief from the daily arrgghhhh of life.

A “white laser” is not a single wavelength.
It’s the combination of red, green, and blue.

This is what happens when it passes through hair.

Laser refraction, and a quiet moment from today’s portrait commission with @abitofquirk.

Some collaborators don’t just sit for the work,
they shape its direction.

Images from this session soon.

MANUP? MOUNTAIN ✨️✨️✨️

Reflecting on a few autumnal days with @manup.how, connecting with a group of guys, exploring nature and giving space for our own minds.

The idea of camping with a load of guys was a little uncomfortable. How different would i feel to the rest of them? Would i be considered to be one of the guys? Did i even want that? Would i other myself before I even got there?

Approaching the camp I was distracted by the beautiful surroundings. Flits of rain and ever changing formations of clouds, sunlight breaking through at every given opportunity. Trees shifting in colour and the early stages of allowing the wind to carry their leaves away. The ebbs and flows of the seemingly endless hills.

I arrived to handshakes, warm welcomes and tent assistance. Leading to an evening of chinwagging, various cycles of laughter and a slowly tiring brain telling me to go rest.

On hike day we awoke to glorious sunshine and the dopamine producing aromas of bacon and coffee. Led by the awesome human @themountaingirluk we made our way to Jacob's Ladder. Their knowledge of the outdoors is top notch and I couldn't recommend them enough as a hike guide!

Our route provided much opportunity; to connect more with each other, to find common ground whilst our feet stepped across the same land, to understand what life looked like for us all, and how we all came to be hiking together.

We organically floated from person to person as well as finding time to focus on our own breath and brains. The challenging aspects of the hike, the literal and metaphorical highs and lows, gave an appreciation of nature whilst allowing our bodies and minds to stretch, escape and heal.

Post hike chats swayed from poignant to silly. We gather around food and fire before slowly dropping out to seek rest in our tents.

The final day, we threw axes and shot arrows led by more excellent humans Wolfie and Martin. When you're guided to improve at something you just feel so cool. It brought us together in a different way. To celebrate each other and ourselves.

An awesome weekend with great human people. Thanks to everyone who came along!
