We rang in my 42nd year last weekend with my family in Tofino. Couldn’t have asked for a better way to recharge and slow things down a bit with family.

41 brought so many great moments and I know 42 is going to give it a good run for its money! More dives, more bikes, more boards, more uncling, more fish, more whales, more gym, more ice creams, more moments being present and more making time for all of it. by @adairc

Today is National Indigenous Peoples Day. We took the time today to go through the catalogue of amazing photo and video memories that we have from the last handful of years working with the @youthwarriornation to reflect on the amazing and beautiful journey it has been.

We've shared in the hunt, the harvest and in the stories and song around the fire and the table. We've moved rocks for clam garden walls, speared fish and dove for Tutsup (urchin) for our own enjoyment but also for community food. We've seen confidence and pride bloom through the hardships of life and the challenges put in front of us in, on and out of the water.

Each year, each visit, we learn and grow more ourselves with those that have been kind enough to welcome us like family into their communities and circles. We've been lucky enough to explore territorial lands and waters with the warrior youth throughout multiple different Nuu-chah-nulth nations over this time.

The power of community, the virtue of respect and the pride of one's culture has taught me so much through each community we've been to visit over the last 5 years.

Take some time today to celebrate our Indigenous People's by learning or sharing with someone about the history and culture of the Indigenous people's of the territories with-in which you (we) live or visit.

Vancouver Island holds an endless amount of liquid environments to explore for Freedivers. With having operated on Vancouver Island instructing Freediving courses since 2017 we’ve been very fortunate to get to host our programs in various different amazing venues around the island. The Campbell River venue shown in this Reel is definitely one of our favourites. Generally calm, almost guaranteed clear 10m-15m viz and warm surface temperatures during the summer months of 17-23C it’s no wonder so many of our students love this venue and thrive when learning within it.

We had an absolute riot the other week with some great support instruction from @treverbass and @thejadedlocal as we ran one hell of a fun program in the lake! Lots of strong static performances with some intense games of rock, paper, scissor and beautiful Constant Weight and Free Immersion performances all the way down to 20m throughout the weekend! Way to go everyone!

Learning in the dark, green and cold waters that the PNW generally holds will always challenge one’s freediving through the thicker and more cumbersome gear along with the mental hurtles our waters can hold.

Sometimes though, it’s nice to take the pressure off a bit and enjoy a more subtle and gentler learning environment.

If the glimpse into this course environment appeals to you we’ve just listed another program for Campbell River this September!

Join us Sept 3*/4*/13/14 for what will be our last PFI Freediver program in the Campbell River/Comox Calley area this season.

Registration details on the website! Look forward to getting you in the water with us!

Hunting lingcod on the inside waters on lingcod and rockfish opening day with @spearfishingcanada @bottomdwellersfreediving @eades__brad @joshuatmarek @somervillecameron .

Listen along as I talk you through a couple of drops from our first day hunting the inside waters this season.

Fun drops… Mixed visibility… Great class of fish… and to top it all off a thorough and friendly check over from DFO which we passed with flying colours after they watched us shoot these fish right in front of them. Good times bonding with DFO…

DFO Op. - “That’s the biggest lingcod we’ve seen today…”

Me - “Well how about this season?”

DFO - “well it’s been kinda slow this season… wait it just opened today”

Me - “ya that’s what I was getting at! Biggest lingcod this season” 😂

Week 1 of our 2024 Rurutu trips have been another amazing blend of in-water and out of water experiences. A glimpse of Day 5 which we took as a down and dry day to recoup for a final session in the ocean tomorrow in this beautiful blue paradise!

It’s always worth taking the time to connect with old friends when those moments present themselves. Life gets busy and time flies but with those life long friends a good night of chats seems to put things right back where they were in no time. Always fun catching up Sebastian Velleryd by @adairc
