we are STILL here!!! it just looks a little different nowadays🥹 and while we are booked and working on other things, our sweet Trío Líneas fills us with lots of love and inspiration🥳 Our art has shifted a bit as we focus on recording projects of our favorite works (commissioned, premiered or all of the above)

John graduate from his DMA program at @umichsmtd and is now collaborating with artists around the country (particularly in Arizona and NY!) all while teaching Music Theory at Hillsdale College🤩
Lexi is now the Assistant Performance Librarian & Concert Programs Manager at @umichsmtd AND Principal flute of Rochester Symphony Orchestra! All while performing and creating with @flydlphn.sextet
And I, Adalus, am working towards my MBA and my Master’s in Arts Administration at @uc_ccm while performing and touring across the country as the newest co-artistic director of @palaverstrings and still working with my beloved @internationalcelloinstitute as their managing director🫡

Meet Adalus, the newest member of our ensemble. We are so lucky to have her!

In her own words:

“¡¡¡¡HOLA!!!! Any day that I get to step into the “Palaverse” is a good day!

Being Palaver’s newest Co-Artistic Director has already filled my life with so much creativity and love!

Palaver has opened up my world to the social change that is possible when friends get together and join forces.

I am originally from Venezuela. I started my music education in the El Sistema program, and since picking up the cello, I have not looked back!

I grew up in a house full of laughter, asian-venezuelan food, wittiness, numbers, and family dance parties.

I love performing, arts administration, programming, teaching music, friendship, learning, and any and all bodies of WATER (I can and will jump on any river, lake, beach, ocean, puddle!)

I am humbled when I think about being a small piece of the puzzle that is Palaver. Every individual in the organization has taught me something about music and about myself: how I want to sound, how I want to lead, how I want to treat others, how I want to listen, how I want to support someone else’s ideas. I leave every cycle with an openness of heart and an increased awareness of my humanness.

When I think about this next season, my first one in the ensemble, I know it’s no coincidence that it is (one of) my lucky number(s): THIRTEEN!

So, make sure to keep your ears out for what’s coming!!!”

Me cuesta aceptar que han sido tantos meses desde que me he sentado a agregar pensamientos a mi documento de blogs de esta cuenta que quiero tanto. Al escribir esto, estoy en el “Palaver Space,” el lugar donde mucha de la magia de Palaver ocurre. Dentro de esta burbuja todas las ideas se ven claritas porque la inocencia de quien las recibe está llena de ilusiones of that what could be and come. Es un espacio que a mi, por ejemplo, me ha dado unas alegrías y validaciones que no sabía me hacían falta. Por eso no es coincidencia que a Teagan se le ocurriera un programa que hable de la magia, de las historias que nos han contado y, sobretodo, del poder que tenemos de cambiarlas.

Es la semana cinco del MBA, and being back in the “classroom” (both actual and paradoxical) no ha sido fácil. Me ha retado and it has humbled me, pero también me ha dado satisfacción y reconexión con partes mías que andaban por ahí dormidas.

Ando con mi “cello glow,” dice Houston que me conoce tanto. Me he vivido estos días como la fiesta que son, a lo Celia, of course. Siento muchas cosas que van y vienen, muchas que se quedan. Me gustaría poder hablar con mas exactitud de esos sentimientos, pero (1) me he dado cuenta que no proceso tan rápido como alguna vez lo creí, y (2) estoy aprendiendo a dejar ir la necesidad de tener que nombrar todo. Si lo bello de la existencia es lo que no se dice, para qué perseguir algo que ha de quitarle la magia a la imaginación.

Adalus will join us beginning this fall, and we’re over the moon to have her as part of the ensemble.

Here’s a little message from Adalus herself:
As someone who loves joint effort and spaces where creating magic through the art of collaboration is at the forefront of each decision, I could not think of a more suitable, fruitful, and welcoming creative family to do this with than Palaver Strings. I am overwhelmed with joy, honor, and humility when I think of working with each of my colleagues, who are not only outstanding artists but also one-of-a-kind human beings.

Kum Ba Yah (trad) for string trio by Adolphus Hailstork 🌦️💟

Reflecting on a meaningful and intimate recital with @adaluscellow. We programmed Hailstork's rendition of Kum Ba Yah within a program centered around solidarity and mutual understanding.

Kum Ba Yah, originating from the Gullah Geechee people in the Southeast "United States", was sung in Gullah, the Creole language spoken by formerly enslaved Africans. With lyrics as a cry for freedom as well as a call for harmony, in the '60s, Kum Ba Yah became an important song of protest during the civil rights movement.

📖 Throughout this video, read and learn from W.E.B. DuBois' beautiful words on African-American spirituals, which he calls "sorrow songs" 🎶 DuBois' full book of essays, "The Souls of Black Folk", is available for free on Google Books!

my last AD recital, “Bach to Rochela” was full of bridges!

paths to connect us all, with each other, with ourselves, with something bigger❤️‍🩹

I want to say thank you to my friends who join me on stage, and those who came in person and/or spiritually!

Thank you to Ricardo Lorenz (@bachango), for always trusting me with his music and allowing me to get myself immerse in his universe.

Lastly, and more importantly, I also would love to take a moment to thank the Carlsen Cello Foundation (@carlsencello) for loaning me the instrument I’ve played on for the past 3 years. two shows in NYC these past couple of days, one in Vermont today, and off to Florida tomorrow for two more!

beyond grateful to be with my @palaverstrings yet again, and to get to play the music in this program!

we’re playing Sonata da Chiesa by Adolphus Hailstork and we got to meet him yesterday at our concert (I was fangirling super hard)!!! AND sweet Maïthéna keeps on shining playing the solo part to Edmund Thornton Jenkins’ Romance and Reverie Phantasy🍎

We’re happy and grateful to have been awarded second place at the @nolachamberfest competition!

We have loved interacting with everyone that made possible the events of the past few days!
