‘This Train’ has officially left the station, and we’re pickin up er’body because the album drops TODAY!

When @curtis.stewart_violin hit me up to record This Train (Track 15) for his new album, 24 American Caprices, my answer was an immediate HECK YES. And somehow, the project turned out to be even more exciting than I could’ve imagined.

Curtis is wildly creative, and I love the way he expands the voice, possibilities, and imagination of what we can do as violinists and what we can be as musicians.

The album is officially out on all streaming platforms today! We hope you’ll listen, share, support, review—and if you’re feeling especially adventurous, maybe even take a crack at learning a caprice or two!

Welcome to the world, 24 AMERICAN CAPRICES! You couldn’t have picked a more perfect release date: Happy Juneteenth. 🖤 Congratulations, Curtis, and every single person who brought this album and these caprices to life! by @afroviolinist

Melissa White is an audience favorite, first coming to us with the Harlem Quartet, of which she is a founding member, and more recently performing Florence Price’s first violin concerto with us. She is in high demand as a recitalist, chamber musician and soloist, having performed with such leading U.S. ensembles as Cleveland Orchestra, Boston Pops, Louisville Orchestra, and the Atlanta, Baltimore, Colorado, Detroit, Pittsburgh and Seattle Symphony Orchestras. She is an incredible musician, violinist and human being — we are so excited to have her back! taken in Asia Pacific Cultural Center by @afroviolinist

For "Inside a World Premiere," we captured the creative process in real time, something audiences don’t often see. You’ll also get to hear candid conversations with Sophia and Melissa about the piece, from Sophia’s writing process and her hopes for the work’s future, to the collaboration behind bringing it to life. Or, as Melissa describes it, how it’s “being born!”

Last night was the first of four performances featuring the world premiere of DSO Composer-in-Residence Sophia Jani's (@sophiajanimusic) new violin concerto, performed by the amazing Melissa White (@afroviolinist). The @dallasnews praised her playing, noting she performed with “astonishing acuity, in sweetly soaring music as well as the busiest scurries.”

Guest Conductor Tabita Berglund opened the program with the sweeping melodies of Tchaikovsky’s Romeo and Juliet Fantasy Overture, a perfect start for Valentine’s weekend, and concluded with one of Rachmaninoff’s most celebrated works, Symphonic Dances.

Don't miss your chance to experience this stunning program. Limited tickets are available at the 🔗 in bio.

Performing ‘Blink of an Eye’ — a moment brief yet infinite, capturing the fragile line between presence and absence — by @medhiwalerski with @alvinailey was a true highlight of my 2025.

Looking forward to taking in more moments and continuing to be moved by music in 2026. ✨ taken in New York City Center by @afroviolinist

I’m trying to capture what I still can’t quite put into words.

Two nights ago I had the profound honor of sharing the stage with the Alvin Ailey dancers for a performance of Blink of an Eye, choreographed by Medhi Walerski.

To be the music for these stunning artists — to watch them interpret harmony with their bodies — was unforgettable. Their movement shaped the way I played, and being that close to them will forever change how I visualize the way music travels through body and soul.

To stand inside the artistry, history, and heart of the Alvin Ailey Dance Company, and to make music alongside these extraordinary dancers, was a gift I’ll cherish. I learned so much, and it was a huge honor to be part of a night where Black excellence lived and breathed in every direction.

Thank you for having me, @alvinailey and congratulations @aliciagrafmack, whose grace, strength, and luminous leadership are carrying Ailey into a radiant new chapter. What an unforgettable moment. ✨🖤 taken in New York City Center by @afroviolinist
