More brilliant student research to celebrate the start of the semester and inspire you to get to The Cheech soon!

Researcher Monica Reyes shows us complexity of cultural identity, Indigenous women's representation, and photographic histories in @cmfrndz Christina Fernandez's "Untitled Multiple Exposure # 4 (Bravo)." Thanks Monica: your in-depth study shows us how art historians de-code, analyze, and contextualize. Bravo! (haha)

💌 SHARE 💌 this with friends interested in these histories or photography, and then come see "Untitled" and more of this artist's work for yourself in the massive exhibition "Chicano Camera Culture, 1966-2026" at @thecheechcenter in Riverside (on view 'til Sept. 6, 2026)

Thanks @csusb_library and Recording Studio for supporting students in research. Always grateful to @thecheechcenter for hosting AHGC course "Contemporary Art of the Américas" each semester and supporting student research.

Ok, one more! Join us in celebrating Art History & Global Cultures 2026 graduates:

🎓💐🎉Leilani Bushnell 🎓💐🎉

🖼️ Leilani co-curated (with Ari and Angeles) PUNKART, the very first exhibition of @artdesign_csusb's Art Cart, a mobile exhibition space. This was deep intellectual work based in connecting art on campus with broader social and cultural ideas -- and they did it in a literal single week, all outside of class time, you guys. (pic 4, Leilani, Angeles, alum Keilani, and Ari)

🔗 Leilani developed the first art history club for students (with collaborator Ari) @csusb.art.resource.club. In addition to creating amazing professional opportunities like this trip to the Getty Research Institute (with Dr. @janechindavidson), Leilani's club leadership included leading discussions with museum professionals, introducing Art History to visiting middle and high school students, and creating a real sense of community among students and faculty (pic 5)

📚 Leilani presented important research on quilting as a form of creative archiving (especially for communities marginalized by mainstream understandings of art, culture, and history) at the annual AHGC conference @raffmacsusb (pic 6 + pic 7 with Dr. Scalissi, Dr. Kashani, Ari, Dr. Chin Davidson and Dr. Decemvirale)

🏆 AAAAANNND Leilani earned two big awards: the AHGC "Lifework" award for her dedication to a creative life and expansive art history (pic. 8 with Dr.@janechindavidson and Ari), as well as the department of Art & Design's Outstanding Student for 2025-26 (pic. 9)

Congratulations Leilani! Thank you for all you've done to uplift our program and inspire students and faculty. We can't wait to see what's next! 🥳 by @ahgc_csusb

Not done celebrating yet! Join us in celebrating our 2026 Art History & Global Cultures graduates!

🎓💐🎉ANEICA RELEFORD🎓💐🎉

🌎 Aneica did on-the-ground art history research at the Uffizi in Florence, Italy (pic. 1)

📚 at the annual AHGC conference at @raffmacsusb, Aneica shared her research on artist gender in the Uffizi's collection and excavated artist Élisabeth Chaplin. Here's some facts from Aneica: out of 3000 works on view, more than 2900 of them are by men....so, less than 100 are by women artists... yet more than 1200 artworks show nude women?Hmm (pics 3, 4)

🎤 Aneica answered some interesting questions about exhibition display, gendered collecting habits, and what it means to study abroad (hint hint, it's good: ask your faculty about study abroad✈️). (pic 2)

Congratulations Aneica! 🥳 Save travels and keep in touch! by @ahgc_csusb
