A huge thank you to everyone who joined Powerhouse + Cool Hand Series at Fifth Season last week for an evening of connection, beautiful rooftop energy, and a powerful conversation.

I had the privilege of moderating our panel with Rafael Casal, Darrell Britt-Gibson, D’Lo Louis, and Asia Johnson, exploring art, incarceration, and what meaningful creative access actually looks like.

Who gets to participate in culture? Whose stories get told, and who gets to tell them? How can we, as artists and entertainment professionals, create opportunities for people who have too often been excluded?

We talked about seeing the whole person beyond incarceration. About joy, imagination, and agency. And about the difference between telling stories *about* a community and making space for people from that community to shape those stories themselves. ✨

As an actress and the founder of a creative community, these questions matter deeply to me. Creative community means more when we’re able to keep asking ourselves who’s missing and what we can do to open the door.

Three weeks, five cities, four countries, and a lot of luggage bc I don’t pack lightly.

Started in New York and got to catch up with parents and college friends. Then Normandy and Paris. Bandol in the south with friends and a lot of rosé. Geneva to visit Zoe, and it’s clean, y’all. Very clean. ✅

One common thread: I got to sit at a lot of tables with people I love. Next up, the Cotswolds. ♥️ by @ajaraecoleman

Marc’s birthday dinner at Symbiose in Cabourg. Michelin star, three minute walk from the front door, and he let me eat most of the squash blossoms on *his* birthday. 🥹 What a man.

Highly recommend if you’re in Normandy. (Both the restaurant and the man, but only one of them is available 😉) by @ajaraecoleman

I’m about five cities behind on posting at this point, so we’re starting here: a week on Martha’s Vineyard with people who spend their lives fixing things, and my favorite travel partner. 🥰

SALA brought together a room full of doers: healthcare, education, justice, media, storytelling. The conversations were the kind that make you want to go home and actually do something. And of course when the sessions ended, the island took over. Lobster, oysters, the Edgartown light at 7pm, Oak Bluffs parties.

I’ve been wanting to get everyone in a room together for a long time.

Not on a Zoom square. Not in the comments. In an actual room, drink in hand, music going, having the kind of conversations that only happen face to face.

So on Wednesday, September 16, Powerhouse is teaming up with Cool Hand Series for GOLDEN HOUR: Artists, Access & Impact. An end of summer evening at Fifth Season in West LA. Red carpet, passed hors d’oeuvres, cocktails, music, and a room full of actors, filmmakers, and industry folks.

Our partner for the night is Cool Hand Series, which brings prestigious films into prisons along with the directors, casts, and creative teams behind them. And then they faciliate conversation. As you can imagine, incarcerated audiences almost never get screenings and talkbacks, and the impact of those sessions is profound.

That’s what the whole evening is built on. Access changes everything. Talent has never been scarce in this business, but access can be, and it shows up as who gets in the room, who gets seen, and whose story gets told. Rafael Casal (Blindspotting) and Darrell Britt-Gibson (Barry, Judas and the Black Messiah) are joining us for a short featured conversation about all of it, with more names on the way.

Marc is going to hate this post. 😂

He does not enjoy being fussed over, does not want anyone making a big deal out of him, and would be perfectly happy if his birthday passed with a quiet little “happy birthday” and we all moved on with our lives.

Unfortunately for him, I am not having that.

Happy birthday to one of the very best humans I know. ❤️

I could say a million things about what an incredible partner you are. How deeply you support me. How beautifully you take care of me. How safe, loved, encouraged, and championed I feel by you.

But one of the things I love most about you is that this is simply who you are. You care so deeply about the people in your world. You are an extraordinary father. An extraordinary son. A loyal friend. A man of enormous heart, integrity, curiosity, and conviction.

I admire your values. I admire the way you move through the world. I admire how much of your life you have devoted to making that world more just, more humane, and more compassionate.

And somehow, on top of all of that, you are also my favorite person to travel with, eat with, laugh with, explore with, have slow mornings with, and just generally DO LIFE with.

You are such a gift to me, Marc Howard.

I know you don’t need a big fuss made over you.

Paris, je t’aime. Et Normandie aussi. 🥰

The past week was a reminder of how much life expands when you remember to slow down enough to savor it.

A thrilling Men’s Final at Roland Garros. Three auditions self-taped from France with my fav (very handsome) reader. Long dinners filled with laughter, ideas, and great conversation. Practicing my French and getting compliments on my accent - what?!! 🤯😆 Wandering neighborhood markets. Hosting a Powerhouse meetup with members of The Table who call Paris home. Celebrating milestone birthdays for dear friends aboard a beautiful boat on the Seine. Late sunsets. And a couple dreamy days in Cabourg, where time always seems to move at its own pace.

Grateful for the friendships, the experiences, the beauty(!), and the reminder that work, play, creativity, and connection don’t have to exist in separate boxes.

À bientôt, France. ❤️🇫🇷✨

Chicago, that was so much fun!!

Some pics from our Powerhouse meetup at Bar La Rue downtown. New faces, old friends, conversations that kept splintering off into smaller pockets and pulling back together again.

Watching you find each other was the best part. The connections that formed in that room are going to keep going long after the drinks and apps were finished, and that’s exactly what I hoped for.

We’re doing it again. Paris was last week, Los Angeles and New York are next, and there will be more cities after that, here in the US and internationally.
