Okay, THIS is a dream come true. My first one woman show “Chula” will have it’s world premiere at the Citadel Theatre next year. Directed by the amazing @marilo99
Thank you @darylcloran and @mieko.ouchi for your support and for believing in this Latina story.
And thank you to @theatregargantua for first supporting it as part of their SideStream Festival last year when I was putting together the very, very first draft, sitting at @riceandbeanstheatre office with @pedrowyourboat supporting that first creation 🩵
I am beyond proud of this one. ❤️ Dedicated to my aunts and mama, and all the mamas who have sacrificed so much so their kids can dream. ❤️

✨ ANNOUNCING OUR 2027 MAINSTAGE PRODUCTION ✨

SkirtsAfire Festival is thrilled to announce Bella Luz by Alexandra Lainfiesta as our 2027 Mainstage production, presented by Theatre Network and co-produced with Ruby Slippers Theatre. 🔥

Bella Luz is darkly funny magic-realist play that unfolds across three worlds: Canada, Guatemala, and a surreal immigration game show. The story follows Sumailla, a Guatemalan dancer desperately trying to secure permanent residency in Canada while navigating impossible bureaucratic systems, family expectations, love, sacrifice, and the pressure to prove her worth in this country.

We can't wait to share this exciting new work next year with audiences in Edmonton and Vancouver.

Audition details coming soon - stay tuned!

Thank you @rubyslipperstheatre ✨🎭 What a special, special night Thursday eve was.
Here are some wonderful snaps 📸 by @scarfontecha
Huge thank you to the truly brilliant team that Jane Heyman and Carmela Sison @rapsberryshake are. The play grew exponentially with your insight, keen eye and outstanding collaboration. (Carmela even designed fantastic projections for the reading.) 🎥
Was very, very lucky to get to play with Rosa Stewart @rosalstewart and Manuela Sosa @manuelasosaactor again for this script, and with the fantastic Genevieve Fleming @genevieve_fleming and Bob Frazer @frazerbobby . This play is for those whose home is an ever-floating nowhere. Thank you to all of you who were there that night and thank you Diane Brown for spearheading this Festival. ❤ The standing ovation was for us all. taken in Shadbolt Centre for the Arts by @alelainfiesta
