🏝️ We built a temporary island at Studio Bakery inspired by the film “The Beach” from 2000 directed by Danny Boyle. We have thought of every sense so you can fully immerse yourself in the lagoon. Leo’s character was tired of the monotony of everyday life and capitalism and eager to find something more meaningful - more exciting. Aren’t we all? The anxieties of how technology would plague us were heightened at the turn of the century when this film was made - and not much has changed today. Let’s find paradise outside of our American dystopia - together on Thursday, August 20th. Ticket link in bio.

Cinergy: A Film & Music Introspective is a new project from Leisure Emporium that is meant to bring the film and music communities together like never before. The objective is to visualize sound, to feel the deeper meanings behind music, and to have artists get inspired by mediums that may not be their own in order to create something unexpected and beautiful. Like a film introspective - this series is meant to bring films to light that depict both challenging and inspirational messages and to match them with the music that amplifies those messages. Expect to see utopias, communities coming together, and visions of the future. We engage the full sensorium by shaping spaces into metaphors that spark profound meanings that make abstract healing concepts feel embodied and real. We do this through aromatherapy, tactile elements, projection mapping, and much more depending on what the film inspires. taken in The Beach by @alexrialdi

@alexrialdi writes: “My daughter Freya picks out music from our CD and record collection every morning while we get ready for school. I have been cataloging her selections for the past year, and for my mix, I decided to only choose tracks from Freya’s choices. [Into the Liquid Mirror is] a deeply personal and reflective mix on the evolution of a child, our family, and how by living together I’ve been inspired to channel my voice as a DJ. I smile not only because the music is beautiful, but also because it’s a glimpse into fatherhood.” Tune in to heal your daddy issues ahead of Father’s Day :-) thank you, Alex 🪁

The fourth downbeatdetection party arrives with the long release of an 808 bass drum kick and the crack of the backbeat snare on the 2 and 4.

Very pleased to present to the fine people of New York City yet another 9 hours of programming on Tuesday, April 28 at the legendary Bossa Nova Civic Club. DBD 04 gathers friends and close collaborators for a night of club sounds calibrated to make hairs stand on end.

Honored to showcase the taste and skills of @perrnaa of the ever iconic @ladiezdrinkfree and current head of programming at LES institution Pianos. Tireless, creative and charismatic DIY organizer and underground scene polymath @itsaliese of @eto.ano will most definitely bring the heat. Expect sounds that pivot seamlessly between electro, minimal, techno and bass-forward selects, foregrounding material that exemplifies the pioneering and foundational sounds of techno and house music.

Sweet and spicy support from one half of the beloved @lifesavers_nyc brain trust, perhaps the most good hearted foodie in the game, electro techno bad boy @combooverrice , with second helpings served up by DBD criminal-conspirator in chief, dub freak, and vinyl addict Spiral Eddie.

From 7-10 pm, Happy Hour sounds are in the incredibly capable hands of archivist, multidisciplinary artist, @groovetrackersfm collaborator and selector general @navigatingthefartworld , with CD slinger @alexrialdi organizer of rising LES party series @mind.cargo .

Flyer and graphics courtesy of the legend @_dirkdegram_ A limited run of riso printed, doubled sided fold out liporello flyers will soon appear at record stores near you, and will be available for purchase at the show.

Thanks for listening my people of the night, as always love 2 the underground, keep it deep, and stay locked.

Love,
🌀

NY-based DJ and programmer @alexrialdi joins us for an extended vinyl journey. Known for his experimentalist approach, you can expect waves of downtempo bliss, IDM rattlers and early hour techno abstractions. Warning - you may get trapped!

✽ artist focus: @alexrialdi
new york–based dj and programmer. resident at @lullabynyc and founder of @mind.cargo malex curates slow-building journeys with experimental, genre-faithless approaches rooted in texture, tension, and patience. hypnotic atmospheres gradually unfold into dubby and trance-leaning spaces, guided by restraint rather than momentum

✽ a few words about his upcoming set
“i want to sculpt an interactive ambience, textured vistas and pockets of progressive, technoid wavelengths. deep grooves and beats that appear only occasionally, but are always dense and grounded. something immersive, spacious, and quietly physical”

✽ musical reference points
