Cinergy is looking for video artists to contribute their art!

Every month we choose one film that has an incredible soundtrack. We then feature musical artists and behind them we project video interpretations of the film onto long fabrics. This is all about letting iconic films live on and inspire new art.

Visuals shown here by The Hefker Girl 👁️

DM if interested in being a part of this ongoing art project 🎞️

PARADISE WAS FOUND…

Every month, we choose one film and build an entire sensory experience around its world. And for our first one, we chose The Beach. Danny Boyle’s 2000 cult classic — from the same director who gave us Trainspotting and 28 Days Later. And if you know those films, you know Boyle has always understood the power of an incredible soundtrack.

The Beach is no exception. Its music was scored by Angelo Badalamenti and supervised by Pete Tong, with original music from Orbital and New Order — and, of course, “Pure Shores” by All Saints, produced by the late great William Orbit, which soundtracks that sexy, unforgettable bioluminescent swimming scene.

Celebrating this film right now feels especially poignant following Orbit’s passing — maybe he’s found some paradise of his own.

So, next Thursday, August 20th, we’re building our own. Join us at The Bakery for a night celebrating the music and world of The Beach, with sets from myself, Secret Grapes, and Malex inspired by the film; video art by The Hefker Girl; food by Julie Hill; drinks by Sacred Software; and custom aromas by Nick Wong.

Because smell-o-vision is so back — and 4D cinema deserves an elevated treatment.

See you at the beach.

@alexrialdi writes: “My daughter Freya picks out music from our CD and record collection every morning while we get ready for school. I have been cataloging her selections for the past year, and for my mix, I decided to only choose tracks from Freya’s choices. [Into the Liquid Mirror is] a deeply personal and reflective mix on the evolution of a child, our family, and how by living together I’ve been inspired to channel my voice as a DJ. I smile not only because the music is beautiful, but also because it’s a glimpse into fatherhood.” Tune in to heal your daddy issues ahead of Father’s Day :-) thank you, Alex 🪁

The fourth downbeatdetection party arrives with the long release of an 808 bass drum kick and the crack of the backbeat snare on the 2 and 4.

Very pleased to present to the fine people of New York City yet another 9 hours of programming on Tuesday, April 28 at the legendary Bossa Nova Civic Club. DBD 04 gathers friends and close collaborators for a night of club sounds calibrated to make hairs stand on end.

Honored to showcase the taste and skills of @perrnaa of the ever iconic @ladiezdrinkfree and current head of programming at LES institution Pianos. Tireless, creative and charismatic DIY organizer and underground scene polymath @itsaliese of @eto.ano will most definitely bring the heat. Expect sounds that pivot seamlessly between electro, minimal, techno and bass-forward selects, foregrounding material that exemplifies the pioneering and foundational sounds of techno and house music.

Sweet and spicy support from one half of the beloved @lifesavers_nyc brain trust, perhaps the most good hearted foodie in the game, electro techno bad boy @combooverrice , with second helpings served up by DBD criminal-conspirator in chief, dub freak, and vinyl addict Spiral Eddie.

From 7-10 pm, Happy Hour sounds are in the incredibly capable hands of archivist, multidisciplinary artist, @groovetrackersfm collaborator and selector general @navigatingthefartworld , with CD slinger @alexrialdi organizer of rising LES party series @mind.cargo .

Flyer and graphics courtesy of the legend @_dirkdegram_ A limited run of riso printed, doubled sided fold out liporello flyers will soon appear at record stores near you, and will be available for purchase at the show.

Thanks for listening my people of the night, as always love 2 the underground, keep it deep, and stay locked.

Love,
🌀
