This @santacruzbicycles Nomad makes me feel like a kid again. 😈🤘

Back in middle school was when I fell in love with bikes and action sports. We created make shift DH tracks and would time each other down them. This was peak x games, Tony hawk pro skater and Dave Mirra bmx video games. I begged my parents for a BMX bike, and to send me to Woodward BMX camp. I’d ride around in circles for hours hitting the make shift jump in my driveway. Bikes represented freedom, joy and creativity.

I became a pro rider for that kid, to provide the representation I wish I’d seen in actions sports, and that fire brought me to places my younger self never could have imagined.

Financial hardship, a certain election, rollback of rights, the collapse of the bike industry all in a short period threw a big bucket of water on that fire, until…

Picking this bike up from @bikeexpress, felt like that Christmas in elementary school when I saw my first bike waiting for me next to the tree. Riding it rekindles that spirt of bombing down the hillside and hitting janky jumps as a kid… the riding for the pure unbridled joy.

In many ways this amazing @santacruz Nomad, is representative of the next chapter of my career, focusing on building the infrastructure for that new generation of east coast kids to be able to dream big and creating spaces that allow all of us to tap into that core memory of our first bike, and the joy it brought us. ✨

Grateful to @mirsepassi and the @santacruzbicycles team for this incredible build, @bikeexpressvt for the meticulous attention to detail building her up, @ride_tenet for the perfectly color matched @handsblakesen signature rose gold components that bring the PNW community to this bike, and @srammtb / @rockshox / @reservewheels for the dream build out. So excited for what’s to come on this bike. by @alexshowerman

I’ve been struggling to feel patriotic and my experience at the Warren 4th of July parade changed that.

I was invited by my friend and incredible queer artist, @madiganl_123 to join her on a float she was making for the Warren parade to sing two of her original songs about queer joy and resistance.

This experience restored my faith in this country and to me showed how we build a broad coalition to fight back. Despite the very obvious protest overtones it also was a celebration. A celebration of a country where a float full of young women can support their friend singing pride songs in front of 5000 people and a fighter jet flyover. A country where queer joy can be out in the open, patriotic and a true celebration of freedom. We have to show up, not just at protests and shouting in the internet but at institutions like patriotic parades and every election from local dog catcher to president.

A stark reminder was right behind our float was the local Republicans. And with all this joy in the parade when they walked by the crowd went silent. It was reminiscent of the squeaky tanks at DJT’s birthday parade. These people just don’t have any joy to give.

The lesson I learned is the rallying cry of the protests of the 60s was peace and love. Back then they met hate with joy, oppression with art and spurred one of the most creative periods in our nations history and massively expanded civil rights. If we are going to beat fascism, we have to show the world how much more fun and joyful it is to join us, and that is what I experienced at the Warren Parade.

I thank @madiganl_123 for her courage, and her incredible voice. With her permission I may share a clip of her incredible songs in the next few days because y’all need to hear it! 🏳️‍🌈🪩🇺🇸 by @alexshowerman

"Coming Home" captures Alex Showerman's powerful journey of embracing her true self. After coming out as a queer, trans woman in 2020, Alex moved west to pursue freeride mountain biking full-time. But every time she returns to her roots in Vermont, she reconnects with the Green Mountain State through fresh eyes, finding a new appreciation for the place that shaped her.

A few of my favorite things!

Lawsons has been such a huge support of my goals and dreams as an athlete! They were one of the first sponsors of Coming Home, I spend my winters slinging beers in the tap room and they sponsor me as team rider. They are such a freaking rad company that is a certified B corp, and community driven. Their beer is also the best!

Tomorrow is such a pinch me moment to be showing Comjng Home and throwing a pre-party at the Tap Room/ @bigpicturecafetheater pre party from 6:00-8:00. Screening at 8:00! Tickets will be sold at the taproom with a five dollar donation benefiting @vmba802

I hope to see you all there! taken in Lawson's Finest Liquids by @alexshowerman

Vanquished some demons while out here in Bellingham! First time back on Blue Steel since my injuries!

I just hit the shark fins, but damn did it feel good to be back digging and riding with the crew. So freaking excited to have the rest of the line back on the hit list for my next trip back. 😈

This trip has been so mentally healing. A trip up to whistler with @badgal_brooky, @wildernoise @haileyelisee and @brooke.trine had me hitting way more than when I was last in Whistler before breaking my neck two years ago. My mental process is feeling so much more dialed in, and feeling so much more relaxed on the bike! Feels so good to be back in action and focused on progression again!

Moral of the story is be patient with your self after injury. The physical healing might be done, but mental can take way longer.

Big ups to @handsblakesen for the invite So rad to get the community together in such a fun way! by @alexshowerman
