I lost my mom when I was 16.

At her funeral, I remember standing there and slowly realizing something I hadn’t expected. I wasn’t the only one who lost someone that day. Every person in that room had their own relationship with her. Their own conversations. Their own moments where she made them feel understood.

She had built something real with every person there.

Growing up, I didn’t have words for it, but she taught me what it felt like to be fully understood by someone. Not just listened to, but known.
She asked questions that made you reflect instead of perform.
She remembered what mattered to you, even when you forgot.

Losing that kind of connection early on stays with you. It changes how you think about relationships, and about how fragile real understanding actually is.

Over time, I noticed how easily depth gets replaced by convenience. We stay in touch more than ever, yet so many of our most important relationships run on surface-level updates. The tools we use, WhatsApp and iMessage, are great at keeping conversations going, but they’re not designed to help us understand each other better.

I kept coming back to the same question.
What would it look like to intentionally design for understanding?

I wanted something that helped families and loved ones move past surface-level conversations into real understanding, the kind that strengthens relationships over time.

So I’m building Bridge.

We raised $1.4M to make that idea real, and now we’re building the team to bring it to life.
