I loved the first book, but the character development, the slow burn finally igniting, and the world-building of Splintered Kingdom made me absolutely adore it. I was traveling while reading this book, and I devoured it over just a couple of flights. Just like the first book, it’s easy to read, yet it’s packed with action, intrigue, and plot twists. I found it incredibly hard to put down.As for the romance in the book, I really enjoyed the yearning, the tension, and the delicious slow burn. The slow burn felt like a perfect delayed gratification. Gretchen has crafted a masterpiece, and we are all along for the ride.In addition to the really good romance, the found family of this series is so heartwarming. All the characters are so lovable and easy to root for. I can’t wait to continue journeying with them for the rest of the series.I must admit that the ending and cliffhanger are diabolical. It left me staring at the wall for a long time, heartbroken and unable to think about anything else for a while. Gretchen, you will be receiving my therapy bill in the mail! I can’t wait to read Shadow and Son, so I do not have to endure this torment any longer.I HIGHLY recommend this book. 🍯“If I turned my head to the side, and our lips brushed, would he taste like honey and jam?”🍯Every summer, I try to read at least one romance book, and I am so glad I read this one. The vibes for this are: the bear + an ocean-side forced proximity romance. I consider myself a foodie, so when I received this book, I was eager to dive in!📖 Yes, Chef by @authorgracereilly 🗓️ Out July 21The two main characters are Poppy, a rich influencer who feels like she doesn’t fit in with her highly successful family, and Jack, a chef grappling with abandonment issues and grieving the closest thing he ever had to a father. After some disastrous events, both end up in Florida, where they aim to re-establish a restaurant and make a name for themselves. Poppy’s goal is to bring publicity to the restaurant, while Jack will prove himself as the head chef.I immersive read this (ebook + audiobook) and I had a fantastic time. I appreciated how honest and raw both POV’s felt. I laughed at the cheerfulness and silliness of Poppy as she tries to prove herself to her family, especially to her dad, who has made her feel like she is not enough. I cried during Jack’s emotional moments as he tried to cope with the loss of his dad and attempted to prove his worth to himself. Both characters just want to be seen and recognized, which tugged at my heartstrings.The audiobook itself was outstanding. The narrators were phenomenal, and I am looking forward to listening to more of their work! The dual narration was incredibly well done by both narrators.I recommend this book for anyone who is looking for a refreshing romance with grumpy x sunshine, amazing found family, grief rep, ADHD rep, and more. The book is quite spicy! You can only hear so much before you’re driven out of your mind.”💡Review:📖 An Arcane Study of Stars by @sydneyjshields ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5The story follows Claudia, who, after getting rejected from Cygnus University, bargains with a demon to get into the school in exchange for breaking the demon out of his prison. At Cygnus, Claudia must catch up on courses, prove herself worthy of being in the school, and prove herself to her academic rival, Cassius. The setting and ambiance of the book were phenomenal. The dark academic atmosphere immersed me in the story and made me feel like I was at Cygnus learning alongside Claudia. The imagery of the classroom setting made me miss college a lot. In addition, the academic rivalry and banter between Claudia and Cassius was so good. I found the magic system of the book very unique and intricate, and it was what I enjoyed the most about the book. I wish this wasn’t a standalone and there were more books so I could keep learning about all of the different magics! The characters of the book were all likable. I particularly enjoyed Claudia’s relationship with Alistair, as it was a very honest portrayal of a friendship that had ups and downs as Claudia is learning to navigate her new life at Cygnus. The relationship with the love interest was faster-paced than what I am used to, but I still enjoyed it.Overall, I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys Faustian bargains, murder mysteries, and dark academia.
