Today, the incredible, multi-award-winning Patrice Lawrence was announced as the new #ChildrensLaureate. @lawrencepatrice is one of the most passionate, talented people I have ever met, so supportive in her role as one of the @allstorieswrite patrons and so inspirational as both an author and a driver of change.

I have no doubt how instrumental and important Patrice's tenure as laureate will be, particularly at a time when society has never felt so fragmented and the future so uncertain, with her focus on promoting wellbeing, connection and communities through sharing stories.

In Patrice's own words:

"I know that stories enable isolated children and young people to feel seen, understood, and most importantly, valued. Stories help readers explore unfamiliar subjects safely with space to pause and reflect on complex emotions. And, just as importantly, reading helps us to understand each other's stories. I believe that sharing our stories will help us build strong communities for everyone across the UK."

Huge congratulations, Patrice 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 by @allstorieswrite

We might be in-between #AllStories programmes, but the support for our former mentees doesn’t stop! They were treated to an amazing editing masterclass last week, by the wonder-editor/author/mentor that is Sara Grant. It was packed full of incredibly helpful, practical exercises and advice, and possibly the biggest takeaway was the importance of the editing process in getting to truly know yourself as a writer, and using that to develop and refine your work. Huge thanks to Sara for giving us your time and your wisdom!

Sara’s new book, The Ultimate Guide to Editing, is out now - we’re not exaggerating when we say this is the BEST editing book out there. A must-have for any writer! by @allstorieswrite

Alhamdulillah it's Friday.

My week has been filled with energy and creativity, thanks to the amazing folks at @allstorieswrite and @megaphonewriterscic, who hosted the phenomenal Sara Grant, for special workshops with All Stories and Megaphone mentees.

Sara took us through several exercises from her fantastic book, The Ultimate Guide to Editing Your Novel, which is jam-packed with practical tips and tools to interrogate our writing and develop and grow as novelists. Character, chapter or line, each exercise helped me discover a little bit more about my writing style and understand how I can make my words shine.

The workshops also helped me untangle a particular knot in my YA dystopia, but more importantly, Sara has helped me change my approach to editing, which I hope will help me continue to grow as a children's novelist.

I'm now looking forward to a weekend of intense revisions to prep my entry for @scbwi_british_isles Undiscovered Voices competition.

Big shout-out to Leila, @thisiscatherinecoe and team for all your work in making All Stories and Megaphone Writers the best place to be for underrepresented writers. You are superstars ✨️
