Our last Kobo Original author for this year is @amanda.emdin with her novel WASSAILING WE WILL GO!

Amanda spent many years working for the tourism industry in Prince Edward County before finally setting in the Durham Region.
She lives with her husband, kiddo, dog, and cat on Lake Ontario, and gets back to Prince Edward County every chance she gets, because it’s where the free baby sitters and good restaurants live.

In case you missed it, Wassailing We Will Go is now available on @kobobooks! 🍎 🍏

Kate Donnelly is all grit and to-do lists trying to keep her family’s @visitthecounty cidery—and her sanity—afloat. A glossy new competitor is stealing her customers, her ornery neighbour has made ruining Kate’s life her full-time job, and her beloved cidermaker lands in the ER days before the Christmas Wassail Festival—the event that could make or break the year.
Enter Harrison Turner: a sunny Australian with outdoorsy good looks, effortless charm, and exactly the cidermaking skills Kate needs to make it through the next two months. Their hot-tub meet-cute feels suspiciously like fate… until she learns he’s best mates with the competition and living in their basement. As sparks fizz and “professional boundaries” start to blur, Kate must decide how much of her family’s legacy—and her guarded heart—to trust to a man caught between two orchards. taken in Prince Edward County by @amanda.emdin

Just finished Cat Dragon by @sambirchwriter and it was a cozy kick off to autumn before I switch to reading horror for a few weeks - swipe for photo of my own 🐈‍⬛ 🐉 (looking particularly grumpy even for a tortie) by @amanda.emdin

Have been reading this incredible MG novel - Scarlet Morning by @gingerhazing - with the kiddo as we wind down summer. It reminds me of a lot of the books I loved when I was my kid’s age - Maybe a little Phantom Tollbooth, a lot treasure island, but with a spooky edge.

Confession: I didn’t completely love Every Summer After. I loved the vibes, the pierogies, the lake, the friendship bracelets, and the fact that it was set in my hometown’s general neck of the woods - but it just wasn’t my type of romance trope. Lucky for me, One Golden Summer immediately delivered on all fronts! Was so excited to spend the weekend hanging out with family and attending a fundraiser for the Madawaska Valley library and meet Carley and eat THEE pierogies 🤌 by @amanda.emdin

Was reading while waiting for the fireworks to start (Happy Canada Day! 🇨🇦) and couldn’t resist!

In my typical Abby Jimenez fashion, i read this one completely out of order lol but now I want to read Say You’ll Remember Me asap. The couple dynamic was not my personal preference but there were lots of other little touches that made me like this book overall. 🎆

Which was better, Say You’ll Remember Me or The Night we Met? by @amanda.emdin

I went into this book expecting ballerina farm and co literary satire and that was simply the wrong vibe to bring to this function.

It’s a psychological thriller (horror?) and the main characters POV is less any generic tradwife influencer and more Erika Kirk than anything. To that end, it’s a stunning commentary on *gestures to everything*

Highly recommend finding @caroclaireburke’s March 2026 article from The Guardian for a fuller picture. by @amanda.emdin

That’s a wrap on our annual book club retreat!

My online book club formed during Covid and started having an annual retreat every spring once everything opened up again, and it’s basically the best weekend of the year.

This year we read Pride and Prejudice (and then watched a million hours of movie and tv adaptions), but I also snuck in some reading time for @sarahbethdurst’s newest, because she’s now an auto buy/auto read for me! ✨ by @amanda.emdin

This book is a sledgehammer if you’re remotely hockey-adjacent: a fan, and especially if you’re a parent to a kid who plays.
@rickwesthead clearly loves the game - there’s no chip in his shoulder here. Just a clear eyed look at where the game is at here in Canada and how bad the culture around it has gotten.

After reading it, nothing about the USA Olympics men’s team infamous response will surprise you.

But he also gives a path forward on how to make things better, and I sure do hope more people listen. by @amanda.emdin

🔪 My entire book club had never read anything by this author and we decided to give it a go. I polled you guys and got a great response - this was the overwhelming recommendation.

Much like Verity, i can’t really say i liked it because the entire book ranged from slightly to moderately upsetting with no redeeming characters, but i also read it in one singular afternoon, so like, i do get it.

Also, no McFadden books are available on Libby or kobo which was a bit annoying.

Read if you want something fast paced and don’t mind every character consistently making The Worst Decisions by @amanda.emdin
