I’ve spent a lot of time wondering what I’m “supposed” to post here.

Nails? Business? Motherhood?

But the truth is, my world has never fit neatly into one box.

💪 It’s raising babies and building businesses.
💎 Vintage jewelry with a story.
🥘 Cooking something that tastes even better because it looks pretty.
🎶 90s music playing a little too loud.
👠 Watching trends while still loving the classics.
🍂 Open windows, crunchy leaves, and a pumpkin candle lit the second September feels remotely close.

💅 And, of course, really good nails.

The more I thought about it, the more I realized that The Nail Room was built from all of these little pieces of me.

The things I love. The way I want women to feel. The conversations we have. The music we play. The details that probably don’t need to matter—but somehow matter the most.

So instead of trying to fit into a niche, I thought I’d invite you into my world.

🍂 Rochester, your Fall Issue is here!

This one is made for a cozy afternoon and a little “me time.”

On the cover, we're featuring Amber Peraino of @thenailroomroc, a mom, business owner, and all-around powerhouse who is building something pretty incredible while raising her babies along the way. Her story is about ambition, motherhood, a little beautiful chaos, and creating a business that makes room for other women to grow, build careers, and feel valued. Because sometimes the biggest thing you can build isn’t just a business, it’s a community.

We’re also pulling up a chair for Coffee Talk with some of our favorite Rochester small business women. We asked them about fall traditions, big “yes” moments, business lessons, and the things that really matter. Basically, the kind of conversations you’d have with your girlfriends over coffee. ☕️

Daddy took us to the car show 🏎️

I almost asked him if he wouldn’t mind me staying home. But I didn’t. I went. We ran into our friends, we had real conversations, looked at fun cars, and watched our older boys play.

As we walked around looking at the cars (my favorites are the little Mercedes, BMW, and Camaro from the 70’s-80’s) I thought to myself 💭

I do a whole lot of working/networking/grinding and not much enjoying life right now.

Postpartum is hard. We’ve been stressed working on big goals that just aren’t happening as quick as we want it to. And I’m building this business that I have massive dreams for…

I forgot along the way that the purpose is freedom. To live, a lot. Funny how a car show gave me this great epiphany and overwhelming feeling of gratitude that my man got us out of the house.

I used to hold grudges.
Now I hold doors.

For a long time, I carried a chip on my shoulder about this industry.

I started my career as a nail technician inside a hair salon, and back then, it was really easy to feel like nails were the less than service.

Hair was the industry.
And I was just the girl who did nails.

I felt invisible.

And if I’m being really transparent, for a while that made me resentful.

But somewhere along the way, I stopped trying to prove that I deserved a seat at someone else’s table.

I realized the beauty industry is so much bigger than hair.

It’s nails. Hair. Lashes. Skin. Brows. Makeup. Tattoos.

And none of us have to be less for someone else to be successful.

Today, I don’t look at hairstylists—or anyone else in this industry—as competition or as people I need to prove myself to.

I see collaborators.
Colleagues.
Women building really fucking cool things alongside me.

We all have something to bring to the table.

And shit, if you’re anything like me…

you’ve probably had to build your own damn table.

So now?

I hold the door open.

Especially for the woman behind me who’s wondering if she belongs in the room at all.

Because I know exactly what it feels like to be invisible.

And I know a thing or two about becoming impossible to ignore.
