Classic Welsh arêtes, and no rain. We’ll take that! ☀️🏔️

Rusty from @snowdoniawalkclimb headed out with Danielle and Mario for a scrambling day in Eryri, looking at taking their skills up a notch tackling Idwal Buttress before continuing up Cneifion Arête.

So nice to be surprised with dry rock all day, despite a very rainy forecast. A smart decision to be wearing the right layers just in case.

Autumn climbing is still going strong. Can you name the routes? 🍂

Andy from @climb_for_life1 has been making the most of autumn, with plenty of great days out on his local crags and over in the Lakes.

The colours are changing, the weather’s shifting, but there’s still plenty of climbing to be had.

Crisp air, sunny skies and classic Eryri scrambling. 🏔️☀️

AMI member @ascent_guides headed into the Ogwen Valley with Sam and Nathan for a brilliant day on Idwal Buttress before moving on to the mighty Cneifion Arête.

Chilly in the air, but dry rock and sunshine made for some cracking conditions.

Sport, or Trad? Why not both! 🧗☀️

Scott from @elite.guides spent a couple of days climbing with students from @soas.uhi as part of @thinkuhi.

Day one was sport climbing at Comic Crag in Kingussie, making the most of the autumn sunshine. Day two a change of venue and style, trad climbing at Polldubh, squeezing in some great routes before the rain rolled in.

Two brilliant crags and plenty of time on the rock.

Would you know what to do if a climb went wrong? 🧗

AMI member @tomflemingcoaching spent the day with Neil and James, two experienced climbers, building their self-rescue skills and working through some tricky scenarios.

From escaping the system and ascending ropes with Prusiks to hoisting and bypassing a knot on an abseil, they covered skills that could make all the difference when things don’t go to plan.

It’s not just about getting up the climb — it’s knowing what to do when problems inevitably arise.

What route that shaped your climbing journey? 🏔️

For Nick from @morethanmns, the North West Face of Idwal Slabs has been exactly that.

He first climbed this route during MCI training, returned for his assessment, and has since been back many times — teaching trainee MCIs and working with mountain rescue teams so they can look after others when things go wrong.

The mountain hasn’t changed. But Nicks skills, judgement and experience have.

When Skye throws everything at you… 🌧️🏔️

AMI member @morag_skelton finished her season on Skye with two days guiding with @ellamarywright — wet, wild, and windy!

With challenging forecasts, they made the most of the conditions: getting onto the ridge on day one before keeping things lower on day two.

The highlight? The Lochan Traverse — a completely new route for both of them, with waterfalls adding an extra bit of excitement along the way.

Sometimes the best adventures are the ones you didn’t quite plan for.

Ready to take your indoor climbing outside? 🧗🌊

AMI member Charlie from @adelongoutdoors spent a brilliant weekend with Wendy and Emma, helping them make the move into outdoor trad climbing.

From the sea cliffs of West Cornwall to multi-pitch routes at the Dewerstone, it was two days of new skills, big smiles and plenty of adventure.

A great step from the indoor wall to real rock, learning to climb safely as seconds and discovering just how much fun trad climbing can be.

SheClimbs 2026 was a huge success. 80 women came to Plas y Brenin for a weekend filled with climbing, learning, adventure and fun.

Why do events like SheClimbs matter?

We want to break down barriers: The festival is dedicated to women and non-binary climbers to create safe, welcoming spaces that actively challenge historical gender imbalances in outdoor adventure sports - for participants and instructors alike! We realise that it can seem like an intimidating sport to take up or progress in and we want to help change that.

Fostering Community: By bringing beginners and intermediate participants together with high-level coaches and instructors, the festival builds powerful peer networks for everyone involved.

We had 22 female Mountaineering and Climbing Instructors (MCIs) working the event - which was super inspiring for everyone.

This allowed for some of our Rock Climbing Instructors to work alongside the AMI members and trainee MCIs to gain more experience working on higher level courses.

If you see it, you can be it!

Ready to take on more technical mountain ground? 🏔️

Sam from @lake_district_mountaineering spent two days with a team of four developing their knowledge, skill and understand of moving efficiently and safely on technical mountain terrain.

From Middletell Buttress and Raven Crag on day one to the Pinnacle Ridge on day two, they worked on movement, route choice, ropework, descents and abseiling — building the skills to move more safely and confidently in the mountains.

With three instructors on hand, there was plenty of time for individual coaching and putting new skills into practice.
