Day 2 with Cleo & Matt on a Trad Learn To Lead Course yesterday

We did a great job dodging the showers with much better weather than forecasted!
The guys squeezed in 6 pitches of climbing and ticked off 2 more classic multipitch routes! 🤙

After over seven years of dedicated work from Garry Smith, it has finally arrived.

‘Some Easy Climbs ’ is a worthy addition to his other two guidebooks and a great celebration of UK rock climbs.

UKC ticklist available for those that are into that sort of thing.

I’ve had a busy weekend delivering different skills workshops at the @tomfurey_mt “Furey Fest”.

Saturday- Self Rescue skills was the theme and we looked at all sorts of ways to escape the system, ascend ropes, tie some new knots, set up some hoists and generally solve problems.

Sunday- Climbing MOT, which meant that we covered all sorts of fine tuning skills from placing gear and building belays to setting up abseils and some more problem solving!

It was a great weekend supporting a good cause- @tomfurey_mt offer grant funding to access skills courses, and it was fun to work alongside lots of other instructors for a change.

Learning the ropes and enjoying the autumnal Dewerstone vibes! 🍂 Beginner climbers Matt and Simon spent the day learning the foundations including tieing in, belaying, seconding their first trad climbs and movement on the rock. Safe to say they have the climbing bug and will be back! 🧗‍♀️

Tower Ridge. Its been a while.
1 The tunnel
2 A bonny start
3 Chillin' at the CIC (literally, a heavy frost).
4 Spot the helo. Someone successfully snatched from a spot they really did not want to be.
5 Shared the top of the route with another soloist. From Akureyri living in Aberdeen.
6 Approaching the Gap.
7 Warm and one of my favourite views. Top of the Great Tower.
8 Looking back.
9 Ooh look. A tiny spot of snow.
10 A little more snow.
11 And now some rime and verglas.
12 Oh, and quite a bit more rime and verglas.
13 Ok now you are taking the p1$$! That's really quite slippery!! 😂 🥶
14 Safely back with my bike for the ride home.

Happy days.

Thank you, FureyFestival2026! 🎉
We are overwhelmed by the support. Thank you to everyone who came along, joined in, and helped make the weekend so special.

Together, we raised £10,583, and every penny of it helps us support others to access the great outdoors.

Grant funding is now open. Thanks to your generosity, we’re launching a new round of grants, and applications are live now. Head to out website (link in bio / https://www.tomfureymt.org/grant-applications) to find out more and apply. Closing date - 1st December 2026.

Not quite ready to apply yet? Don’t worry. Our next round after this will open in spring, so if the timing isn’t right for you now, keep an eye out and start planning.

Thank you again for being part of it. We couldn’t have done it without you - Same again next year….?
