Let’s talk about @lacuddleclub , my personal project that aims to remove stigma from platonic intimacy, create an active practice of consistent consent, and serves as a revolutionary act against r@pe culture. It’s a tall order. But with every meeting we get a bit closer to realizing it and it wouldn’t be possible without you.

Over a year+ ago I reached out to our older sister, @dccuddleclub and got the go-ahead to launch a group here committed to cuddling, consent and prioritizing underrepresented bodies. And we struggled. I didn’t have a space, so I asked a mentor (thank you @maceopaisley ) who told me to start outside. We took to the parks and beaches. Then we did a popup (thank you @_roseinthedark_ ). Then we found a space, but it wasn’t accessible. And I didn’t want cost to be a barrier to touch, so we only charged what we needed to afford a venue. Then we found a stable, accessible venue (thank you, @devilmaskstudio ) and now the revenue helps the venue and myself to continue. We still do a free workshop for underrepresented groups bi-monthly. And have even found some friends to create the mood (thank you, @tienesparty )! And again I find myself afraid to push into the next step because I’m not sure who will meet me there. But I’ll take the step because it’s necessary and it’s time.

Soon, I’ll be creating space for cuddle labs, which will just be a more truncated cuddle space for those who have attended at few cuddle events in the past. With the sole effort centered around stepping into and out of a negotiated cuddle. I’m not sure what it will look like but the goal will be for more experienced folks to be able to cuddle more effectively and more often. I’m Amon, your queer platonic side chick. You and I cuddle, do yoga, write poetry and pursue philanthropic hedonism together. It doesn’t matter that we just met. We go together. Since you’ve met me, I’ve shown you what platonic intimacy can look like and made you question if you can love others a bit more creatively. Since I met you, I laugh more and remember to drink water. One day you respectfully slid in my DMs and I responded and now we share memes and show up at events expecting to see each other. We can be as quiet or as loud as you want to be about it.

10 things to know before going to @folsomstreet

1. Find your people. Come for novelty, but stay for community. That boy you keep making eyes at? Say hi. He’s new here too and now y’all are mobbing.

2. FOMO is real. Plan ahead, but be ready to be flexible at. Moments notice. Which is why you always want to have something to do. But don’t be so rigid that you miss out on your new favorite thing.

3. Respect the talent. And support them wholeheartedly. This is your leisure but it’s also their job. (Bring cash and tip well!)

4. Sometimes the side attractions are the main attractions!!! At any given time you can turn your head to see something far more interesting than what’s happening on any given stage (there’s plenty to choose from). Keep it respectful and watch from a distance - unless you’ve been invited to touch!

5. Buy a new toy. Don’t let societal norms dictate what you watch and engage with. Make sure your boundaries are locked and loaded - as you are navigating the Wild West of kink, but allow yourself to explore the markets and try a new toy or seven!

6. Check in! Create rendezvous points with your group. You will get lost. Sometimes voluntarily. It’s a good time to have a few set times/locations to meet up and check in with everyone before you’re too far to look back.

7. It IS a fashion show. A kinky Guerrilla runway if you will. Some folks are birthday suit casual and others are kink formal and everything in between. Please be ready to see and be seen!

8. Pace yourself, make sure you figure out where food, water, and bathrooms are. There’s even a medic area and you should always know where that is. PS. Don’t be alarmed by the “interactive” pool, with overly willing human receptacles, by the bathrooms - if that’s not your thing feel free to wait in the line for the port-a-potty.

9. Show up early, and be ready to leave late. Bring a pair of shoes you’re comfortable walking a marathon in. And save enough energy to duck into an after party later. Yes. We’re serious.

10. Take all the photos! Go to all the parties! Download @feeldco (a few days prior) and set SF as your location. Meet all the people. There will be plenty of time to wallflower later. by @amonelise

Most Black Queer folks I ask have the same worry about going to Folsom - Will we be the only ones there? @feeldco (the app that’s always down to elevate a connection), sent me to report back. Big ups to @blackqueerdomsociety for making sure I had numbers to roll with, and an itinerary with local kinky organizers (see off screen: @bigbadohmi and @b.tourmaline_ ) to create a Black takeover for the weekend. I wouldn’t have had it any other way. More to come!
