Breaking News: the ANZ branch in Woden Canberra was overtaken by dinosaurs determined to open bank accounts. Having heard that ANZ invest in extinction and having been part of a successful extinction, the dinos wanted in on a second.

Dinos were met with confusion and security responding with closing the bank, and allowing only one dino to open an account at a time.

Rising Tide activists were everywhere entertaining and informing the crowds. Discobedience discoed to bangers like “Staying Alive”. Security advised that the police weren’t coming, so the climate activists announced that mayhem, disco and ridiculousness would continue for the rest of the afternoon. Security pleaded for the police to attend to manage dying dinos, playful clowns, disco dancers and informative banner holders.

Too many ACT Police arrived. Dino biscuits were offered, and it was generally felt that the police agreed that the ANZ decision to fund the NEA pipeline was a terrible one. Fracking the NT is literally not cool for anyone. These mischief makers will be turning up again until ANZ makes better financial decisions. by @amy.l.blain

Canberra climate activists went out in force at the Woden ANZ branch. The Banner Team, Activist Shareholders, Discobedience, Dinosaur Troupe and Climate Clowns were calling out ANZ for fracking the outback with their financial support of the NEA pipeline in the Betaloo Basin.

We turned the shopping centre into our dance floor, let the dinosaurs roam and pointed out ANZ is selling out our future, until security stopped the fun. The curious onlookers loved us, ANZ not so much.

Our Activist Shareholders pointed out at least 83% of the gas fracked by Betaloo Energy will be exported overseas - of no benefit to this country. We’ll be hit by its pollution. ANZ’s reputation is at risk and this project betrays their commitments to their customers. The manager said he’d “Send it up the line”. ANZ needs to make better financial decisions. by @amy.l.blain

A simple message. That North East Australia pipeline @anz_au want to fund - drop it like it’s hot. It’s a super terrible project fracking the literal life out of the NT. Be better ANZ. Thank you 🙏 taken in ANZ by @amy.l.blain

The Independent Planning Commission has given a massive fuck you to everyone that’s not HVO by approving a massive coal mine for the full 19 years ina climate emergency. Glencore and Yancoal need a transition strategy for its workforce. The earth is burning, we’re losing homes, habitat, species and communities but 1,500 jobs were saved…the economic argument is going to start looking a bit shit when farmers can’t grow food, workers can’t do their jobs outside, schools are closed from climate disasters and hospitals filled with smoke and heat impacted patients. Then there’s the repairs and rebuilding of homes and community after the climate disasters. Let’s make sure Glencore and Yancoal pay the bill for their climate damage that they directly cause.

Urggghhh! They’re back again! Going on about a gas exports tax. We’ve put up massive billboards about how great we are and all the corporate tax and helping people with gas stuff. Let’s hope the politicians don’t hear this lot talking about over 70% or 50% gas exports tax, we want 0% so there’s more for the Bolly fund. The fossil fuel-driven climate crisis is increasing the challenges people face. How are bushfires changing? And how do we make Canberra and communities safer and more resilient?

Join us for our next Belco Politics at the Pub featuring Wahlabul Bundjalung man and internationally recognised bushfire scientist Professor Jason Sharples and climate and community leader Amy Blain.

We’ll talk about bushfire science, preparedness, climate action and what genuine community resilience could look like in Canberra 💪

Everyone is welcome! Register via link in bio.

Safeguard Mechanism. We’re going 100% on carbon credits because money can buy you a way out of actually reducing your pollution entirely. The current mechanism has reduced emissions from the top 212 polluters by an incredible 0.4%. We’re all saying fuck it, buy credits, all of them, they don’t even have to be real and no-one notices. We’re not even pretending to do Net Zero we just spend millions and billions on credits and massive billboards at the Canberra airport. Job done. Safeguarding through carbon credits and not reducing emissions at all. We’re loving the “high integrity” offsets too where we can sell off native forests and get the koala population right down, better for the selfies. Honestly, we’re don’t even need Pauline when Labor are doing such a marvellous job for us multinational billionaires. by @amy.l.blain

Canberra’s Rising Tide crew were the Welcome Committee for Santos CEO Kevin Gallagher, platformed bizarrely by the National Press Club. We really must hear more from multinational Gas Companies who sell our gas for huge profits. We do hope a journo or two asked exactly why they can’t pay a very small 25% gas exports tax. Guests were being sent round the back by the NPC because of “protestors”, so we made sure we welcomed them to the back. Reminding everyone not to frack the outback and then they could walk in front door, with no embarrassment. by @amy.l.blain

For those championing “high integrity” offsets with the INFM, we’ll celebrate when the Great Koala National Park actually happens. We’ll celebrate when native forests and old growth forests are no longer logged. You can’t trade in nature, it’s not a game. The forests lose again. We hope you’re right that it will end native forest logging, but past behaviour would say you’re not. Thank you to Senators Nick McKim, Vanessa Bleyer and Jordan Steele-John for standing up for real protection of the forests and against Labor’s bullshit INFM and Premier Minns’ endless broken promises. This is Labor, they don’t care about protecting the environment. by @amy.l.blain

Ok friends, you’ve got until midnight tomorrow to make a quick submission on the HVO continuation project. The Independent Planning Commission has asked what the shortest extension period is to transition the workforce. Funnily enough, HVO has responded with they need the full 19 years to be economically viable…they also don’t think the scope 3 emissions should be looked at and just want to tell the Commission to do what they tell them. We can’t have coal for another 19 years. Glencore and Yancoal have had two decades to create an exit strategy for its workforce, the fact they didn’t bother doing their homework because they thought they could get away with it should not be accepted as an excuse. The earth is burning and coal needs to stay in the ground. Transition the workers and close the mine. HVO have had enough time to help their employees they’ve just chosen not to. by @amy.l.blain
