Special news! Mandy is Still a Banana has been translated and published in South Korea! 🇰🇷🍌🍌🍌🍌

Couldn’t be more proud of this introspective banana. It’s tough being a writer, even tougher to hold onto your voice, so when it travels it means the world.

@amyevansillustration’s brilliant illustrations look even better in Korean!

Thank you @hachettechildrens @thecatchpoles and @piagetbookstar_official for making this possible! 🙏🏻

Fancy badge for a fancy day! (I would even argue this tops a Blue Peter badge...)

So many amazing books at the @klausfluggeprize long list celebration this evening @piccadillywaterstones. Such an Inspiring talk from @rbiddulphAnd @emmafarrarons that has reminded me to get my sketchbook put more!

Still can't believe Mandy is a longlister.

(A cancelled train, a flask of stew leaking in my backpack and somebody watching videos for 3 hours with no headphones can't bring us down ☀️🌞🍌)

Huge news about the cover art I created for Catherine Redford’s beautiful book ‘The Way The Water Held Me’, published by @theemmapress this month.

My bird illustrations have been shortlisted for both the Paper Bird Illustration Exhibition whose theme this year was Flight and the Thames & Hudson Illustration Award.

I’ll be exhibiting the work online and in person, so if anyone happens to be in Australia, keep an eye out…It’s turning into a very exciting year 😮

Have you checked out our new window? 🍌🍍🍓🍊

On Friday the lovely @amyevansillustration and @zoe_arena_writer joined us to paint our window and do a story time! Kenilworth Nursey School came to hear ‘Mandy is still a Banana’ read by Zoe and it was so lovely to hear the chuckling and great questions from the kids!

We also have some wonderful artwork in the shop and window from @stjohns_eyfs student which were inspired by the book!

Pop by, check out our new window and pick up a copy of this fab new story that will have both the adult and the kids laughing! 🤭🤩

🍌’Mandy is still a banana’ by @zoe_arena_writer and @amyevansillustration is a bright, playful picture book about self-acceptance and celebrating what makes us unique. Mandy is fed up with being a banana, she’d much rather be a pineapple like Pedro. But Pedro isn’t convinced being a pineapple is all that either; he fancies being a watermelon instead. The trouble is, watermelons wobble, pineapples are prickly and bananas are bendy… so which fruit really has it best?

🍌 As the fruity identity crisis unfolds, it’s little Blip the blueberry who offers the sweetest wisdom. Longing to be a banana himself, Blip helps Mandy see her sticker not as a flaw, but as something full of possibility: a magic carpet or even a silly hat.

🍌 With humour and heart, ‘Mandy is still a banana’ delivers a gentle, uplifting message about self-worth. A joyful story that encourages children to embrace exactly who they are.

Just in case you’re post Sunday dinner in your joggers (with a bit of gravy down ya top) and not quite feeling yourself - you might like to know that I took Mandy through a fair bit of roughing out to get to her looking top banana, and even the bendiest banana’s have been a work in progress at some point!

She’s had some very funny faces and I loved them all! Which is your fave?

(So glad I decided to leave the one with the collage eyes in the ’perhaps not quite right’ pile)

#illustration #wip #workinprogress #roughdesign #conceptsketch by @amyevansillustration

Today is a big day for bananas.

I am absolutely thrilled (and a little bit beside myself!) to share the news that ‘Mandy is Still A Banana’ has been long listed for the @klausfluggeprize 2026. Huge thanks go to them for recognising our book amongst so many amazing titles out there. It means so much.

Thanks to our publisher for putting Mandy forward for consideration- It means a lot that somewhere people were thinking Mandy's got what it takes and it really warms my heart! She is sitting alongside some absolutely stunning work too.

Picture booking has been a twisty turn journey into the unknown that I don’t think I could ever have been ready for and it keeps throwing up such wonderful moments. I keep having to pinch myself. What an absolute honor! So proud of @zoe_arena_writer and Mandy.
