Opens tomorrow!

Presented by @vertdesignstudio Interpretations is an ongoing exhibition series exploring the adaptability and currency of industrial design.

For its sixth edition, Interpretations invited local designers to experiment with carbon fibre — exploring its material qualities and potential.

“Carbon fibre is a material that has been in use and development for more than a century. But its use has been relegated to performance sports and transportation. The material is underused because designed are ‘gatekept’ from engaging with it.” — @andrewcsimpson

We’re excited to be part of Australia’s biggest-ever celebration of design.

The @powerhousemuseum Parramatta Opening Festival is now live!

On Sunday 8 November at 10:30am, hear our founder @andrewcsimpson in conversation with leading Australian and international creatives from Studio Ongarato and Space Popular, alongside The Guardian’s Deputy Culture Editor Sian Cain.

Together, they’ll unpack the making of The Mall and explore the role of design as cultural production, sales mechanism and object of consumption.

We’re proud of our resilient team and everything we get to work on together. Bringing ‘real things’ into the world takes intention, curiosity, effort, and action.

Industrial design often sits under the radar. Good design can go unnoticed because when something works seamlessly, it simply feels right.

But behind every product is deep thinking… countless decisions that shape how something functions, feels and is produced.

@bolo_eco is an elegant, lidded container made from molded rice husk.

It was designed to replace single-use takeaway packaging across a variety of settings, from food halls to corporate catering to home dining and delivery services.

The design intent is to reuse waste and eliminate harmful chemicals, while celebrating the pleasures and rituals of food.

Bolo doesn’t compromise on manufacturing in the same way that traditional projects may. To preserve the beauty and character, the process pivoted from injection molding to compression molding which maintains the form and subtle uneven wall sections that give @bolo_eco its distinctive tactile quality.

Bolo is a collaboration between @charleswilsondesign and @andrewcsimpson with support from @vertdesignstudio lead by Ned Mason by @andrewcsimpson
