I was 3 months old when my parents first chucked me in a pool. Now, I can't deal with being away from water for 3 days.

I don't know when I figured out that being immersed in water regulated my nervous system. As soon as I'm underwater, I can breathe. Over the last year, it's been the thing that has kept me calm, that has made me happy.

But racing was never something I thought I was interested in. I think because my only experience of it has been super loud competitions at leisure centres where the distances were sprints. Me, I like long distance. Then, a couple of months ago @trisistersuk // @cyclesistersuk said they had a place for the 1 mile @swimserpentine and, well, here we are and I'm SO happy I did it. I may have found my sport!

A huge thank you to @trisistersuk @cyclesistersuk for getting me to the start line. They encourage Muslim women into sports with a bunch of them running marathons, doing triathlons and insane cycles. I've found so much inspiration, community and learning from them. Check them out and support them if you can. taken in The Serpentine by @anisah_ob

Living in Toronto during the World Cup has been fun! Although I’m glad to have my time and stress levels back to normal. Needed a little place on the grid for it. No more football (until next year for the Women’s World Cup) 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🇪🇸

Been a while since I’ve been on here butttt I’ve just come off of two weeks I’m very proud of. Plus, ONE person said they missed my conference fit checks so here you go… have a little photo dump:
1. @unlockvccommunity summit — the women in VC conference. This is the second year I’ve been part of the team and I think we pulled off something special. I’ve never been to a finance focused event where people rave about the energy and kindness in the room.

2. @siftedeu summit — *the* European tech conf. I might no longer write my weekly newsletter but there was no way I was missing the IRL fun. This was my third year co-hosting the Startup Life stage which focuses on how to actually build companies. These are some of my fave conversations I get to have on stage.

I say proud because, although I’ve always loved interviewing people on stage, I now actually feel like I’m good at it.

PS. A huge thank you to @byrotation for dressing me in the gorgeous @nadinemerabi lilac fit! Only you guys could convince me a trail on a top at a tech event wasn’t too extra 🧡🧡 by @anisah_ob
