Playing with pop-up artist books... just finished my first one for the show “Endless Horizons” at the Carnegie Art Center, on display till Sept. 26.
Show features work by member of FotoMatter @fotomatter.collective

My photo project, Drunken Forest, was shot in Alaska several years ago. It’s been satisfying reworking older images in a new iteration. Some digital, some shot with a Holga toy camera, and 120mm film.

A drunken forest is one that has trees leaning or bending due to unstable ground, and with thawing permafrost this is happening more and more in places like Alaska and the far north.

Come see this and many other photographer’s works at the Carnegie in Mankato! @cacmankato

Stock Pile by Areca Roe (@arecaroe)

“Stock photography has fascinated for me for some time, with its generic ubiquity and bland cheeriness. Stock imagery companies put out briefs or prompts predicting to photographers/videographers what is going to be in demand in the coming next month or year. Out of curiosity I began perusing the prompts, and realized they synthesized certain trends in our culture and aspects of this unusual time, through their capitalistic filter.

By satirizing the briefs, I expose new meanings, and reclaim authorship that is lost with stock photography. The text of the prompts is shown alongside the imagery, helping the viewer interpret the work and sometimes sharply contrasting with the image.“

Part 2! “Sleep Tourism: Document the intriguing concept of sleep tourism, where travelers seek unique destinations and accommodations designed to enhance sleep quality. This trend is attractive to brands looking to emphasize wellness, relaxation, and the health benefits of good sleep in an ever-busy world.”

Another classic Midwestern statue I’ve been visiting since I was in utero. World’s Biggest Tiger Muskie, dontcha know. Passing on important traditions to the kids...

Midwesterners just love a huge random statue. I’ve been visiting this fellow as long as I can remember in northern Minnesota. You know him?

//STOCK PILE// About this project: I make work inspired by prompts from well-known stock photo websites. Stock photo companies put out briefs telling photographers what is going to be in demand that month or year. In response, I’ve been making quick and strange images and videos with what I have on hand. I take direction from these briefs—but in a way that misunderstands them or heightens the absurdity.

(AI is taking it over, of course, but there are still prompts being put out for photo/video. I feel like I’m documenting the end of stock photos as we know them.)

A few months ago, @arecaroe pitched us the idea of a Creature from the Black Lagoon-inspired music video for “Princess Bitch”, and of course we said yes! Here are some BTS pics from last night’s video shoot!

Double exposure film roll with Tamara @yomerevelo 🎞️

We each ran the roll through a 35mm camera, without knowing exactly what the other one photographed, so it’s full of accidents and serendipity. For instance layers of the lift bridge in Duluth, paired with fish and strawberries!
