Honeybee Swarm Season Math.

When resources are abundant, or home starts to feel crowded… queens decide to boogie and take about half of their population with them.

So as beekeepers, we beat them to the punch — splitting the hives for them to simulate a swarm. The old queen will happily settle into her smaller population, and the newly queenless population will get busy making their new leader.

My wife @shf220 had the genius idea to turn one our closets into a sneaker closet with Knicks card wallpaper and the finished product is glorious. Some content of the entire process.

A massive shoutout to our friend @arithill @actdesignct for taking the lead on applying each card individually to the wall, she was styling & profiling for days. So much zest & finesse as @realwaltclydefrazier would say. If you want something similar, hit her up.

When I was 5 years old, I would wake up at 4:30am and sit at the kitchen island with coffee milk just so I could have a few minutes with him before he left for work. He would allow me join him at his sanctum - the golf range - where he would often refer to himself in the 3rd person to “get it together, Rob” when his aim was off. He was the most dapper & charming man I ever met, and had a forever glimmer in his eye that was as playful as it was warm. He never met a glass of Italian red that he didn’t like, and he had a disdain for garlic that should go in a record book.

He showed me what hard work looks like, and the value it can have in your life if you love your work. Even after receiving a diagnosis of ALS 7 years ago, he pressed on with his learning, working and mentoring until his final days.

In this swirl of emotions, one of the things I am having the hardest time reckoning with is how much I will miss making him laugh. He had the very best laugh.

Tell your people you love them, as much as you want and as often as you can. I promise that you’ll never regret it. by @arithill

If what they say is true — that true love is just choosing your partner every day, over and over again — then choosing you is the single best decision I get to make, every day.

So yesterday was National Dog day. And since these weirdos are such a big part of our lives, I thought it might be fun to share a couple tidbits about each of them 🐾🦴

I think it’s only fair… My entire feed is your children going back to school 😂

Maddie: The oldest of the pack, and the clear leader. She is a magnet for other dogs and the glue that holds this pack together. She is also pure mischief, and will not feel any remorse for stealing food right out of your hands.

Ember: She looked like a silver and black pile of ashes when she was a baby (hence her name). Everyone thinks she’s the oldest lady because of her grays, but that’s just the color of her coat. She is also the weirdest and most tender soul of the bunch - and everyone who gets Ember to love them feels pretty honored to be in that club.

Pneuma: Named after a Tool song. She was a street dog, abandoned and living behind a gas station in rural Georgia. She is unafraid, tough as nails, and FIERCELY loyal. She is also an expert chipmunk hunter, and has squared off on multiple bears 🐻 despite her 42lb frame.

Bruce: AKA Brucey. Our 3-legged prince. Saved from the streets of Texas - sick, and down one leg from a bad interaction with a human. He is pure love and joy. He is equal parts playful, goofy, and stubborn. I got to witness the moment my husband fell in love with him, and I’ll never forget it.

Photographing finished spaces has never been my priority… and It feels weird sometimes to share almost-done spaces when all I see are carefully curated professional photographs in my feed.

I DO have a million and one progress shots. I have photos of measurements & sketches, shots of my tape measure stretched out, and close ups of the inevitable problem that needs to be solved. These are always taken with my phone, as I balance 15 things in the other arm and I’m rushing to get to my next meeting on time (but also need to stop for a coffee in between ☕️)

So knowing who I am and how nutty life is, I’m shaking hands with the fact that I might just have to share less than perfect photos most of the time.

So, here we have it. Today’s vibe is a few🔥ceiling details.
