“Is it a performance or is it a problem?”
I’m borrowing the question from Kjersti Solbakken, one of 12 contributors who made up the seminar ‘Institutional Genealogies’ this past Saturday 🌐

I am ever-grateful for Maren Dagny Juell, Hendrik Folkerts, Alison Burstein, Lotte Løvholm, Jina Chang, Ana Ribeiro, Saša Astentić, Kjersti Solbakken, Helle Siljeholm, Mijke van der Drift and Nikhil Vettukattil, Manuel Pelmuš, and Ifrah Osman for their trust and generosity ✨
I’m also indebted to colleagues Geir Haraldseth, Marte Golten, and Cécile Hjelm, and technicians Eirik and Ole Tveit Hana. Last but not least, thank you to everyone who attended a long day, familiar faces and new.

Until next time!

Thank you to Director of Collections and Exhibitions Nora Ceciliedatter Nerdrum for introducing the event, and to everyone who brought your presence and warmth to the room.

Curator of learning and public programmes is Håkon Lillegraven and project manager Anneline Berg.

The film programme was curated by Rana Issa and included short films by Philip Rizk, Omar Amiralay, Shadi Habib Allah, Rania Stephan and Samia Halaby.

The films spanned from 1970 to 2026 and depict land, ecology, ruination and dispossession, and the consequences of modernity and settler colonialism.

The films depict land and peoples in Egypt, Lebanon, Palestine and Syria, curated by Rana to be in dialogue with Jumana’s works “Post-Herbarium” and “Wild Relatives”, currently displayed in Room 87 in the museum’s collection display.

The event was the last I organised in my 2 year and 8 month tenure at the museum as Curator of Learning and Public Programmes.

On Saturday September 26th I’m happy and honoured to invite you to the last discursive event I organise in my position at the National Museum, with artist and filmmaker Jumana Manna and author and artistic director Rana Issa.

Rana has curated a fantastic programme of short films from Egypt, Lebanon, Palestine, and Syria made between 1970 and 2025, many never before screened in Norway. After the films, Jumana and Rana will be in conversation. The event will be introduced by Director of Collections and Exhibitions Nora Ceciliedatter Nerdrum.

Tickets are free for artists and cultural workers and can be booked via the link in my bio 🎟️
