As a senior curator at KORO – Public Art Norway, Drew Snyder is part of the curatorial groups developing the public art programs for Norway’s new Government Quarter and the new Museum of the Viking Age, as well as working with collaborative artistic research projects relating to Norway and Sápmi’s Truth and Reconciliation process, among other initiatives. Prior to KORO he was program manager at Office for Contemporary Art Norway (OCA) and has worked internationally as an independent curator. He holds a PhD in art history, theory and criticism from the University of California San Diego.

Vjolla Emiri (they/them) (b. 1992) is a trans & queer Muslim Kosovar artist, care worker and organiser based in Oslo, Norway. As an artist-organiser interested in cultural work, they explore how collective art processes can build more capacity within social justice movements. Their artistic practice is inseparable from their socio-political and cultural solidarity and action, taking shape through street protests, art carnivals, workshops and mutual aid initiatives. With a focus on abolition and collectivising care, their work aims to challenge power structures and build towards more empathetic communities and collective healing. They work from a decentralised anarchist position, where collective ownership, process and cooperation are central.

Rami Samandar is the leader of the Palestine Committee of Norway (Palestinakomiteen) and a social scientist. He grew up in Jerusalem under Israeli occupation, an experience that has been central to his strong commitment to Palestinian freedom, rights, and self-determination.

For several years, Rami has been active in Palestine solidarity work in Norway, with a particular focus on political mobilisation, the fight against racism and discrimination, and pushing Norwegian authorities to move from words to action. He is a prominent voice in the public debate on Palestine and Norway’s responsibility.

Synlighet, (2026), Kunstnernes Hus

Synlighet er en installasjon og dialog med arkivmateriale fra den kollektive kraften bak det lesbiske synlighetsprosjektet «Lesbebuss88». Et vitrinebord presenterer møtereferater, faksbrev, nyhetsartikler og andre fragmenter lånt fra Arbeiderbevegelsens Arkiv og Bibliotek. I en video, reflekterer kunstneren rundt ett av disse objektene, Lesbisk Hefte, et informasjonshefte om lesbisk liv. Heftene ble publisert i 1988 av Kvinneutvalget i DNF-48 for å utfordre vanlige myter om det lesbiske livet.

Queer listening: Tuning into the Unknown (2026), 50 min live radio på Kunstnernes Hus etterfulgt av flaggseremoni.

En live radiosending fra Kunstnernes hus som presenterer lydverk av skeive lydkunstnere, arkivmateriale knyttet til skeiv historie og intervjuer med lesbiske foregangskvinner fra Lesbebussen88.

Museum for store, små og alle imellom 🌼

Ingen dager på museet er helt like. Om det er å lære, bli inspirert, leke eller bare ta en blund, så er det rom for det meste i Nasjonalmuseet.

I dag er det den internasjonale museumsdagen og her er noen glimt fra museet! Takk for at dere deler bildene deres med oss, fortsett med det! 🫶

SØNDAG 15. MARS kl. 17:30 / VEGA SCENE:
Som den siste begivenheten i det offentlige programmet for utstillingen «Deviant Ornaments» inviterer Nasjonalmuseet, Vega Scene og Oslo/Fusion internasjonale filmfestival til en 30-årsjubileumsvisning av spillefilmen Fire av Deepa Mehta, etterfulgt av en panelsamtale.

Filmen, som ble utgitt i 1996, var den første indiske filmen som viste et lesbisk forhold, og førte til både offentlig debatt og protester.

Spesialvisningen etterfølges av en samtale som vil belyse filmens utgivelse og arv, og hvordan den fortsetter å aktualisere samtaler rundt skeive og kvinners rettigheter i dag.
Deltakere i panelsamtalen er filmregissør Nefise Özkal Lorentzen og kunstner Meera Manjit Kaur, moderator er Noor Bhangu.

Open Forum gladly welcomes you to Inventing Lost Archives; a presentation by Kasra Jalilipour @kasrajalilipour in collaboration with the exhibition Deviant Ornaments.

Kasra Jalilipour works across sculpture, installation, text, & performance to reimagine lost or erased archives connected to shrine cultures, ritual practices, & histories of otherness. Through speculative methods, their work treats the invention of artefacts & relics as a political & poetic act of queer resistance, honouring historic or fictional queer ancestors while creating knowledge for those yet to come.

Kasra’s research explores how gender-segregated religious spaces, often understood only as restrictive, may also have functioned as places of refuge, intimacy, & autonomy. Their work draws on histories such as women-only Sufi shrines, medieval European nunneries, & beguinages in the Netherlands & Belgium, where women living outside normative marriage structures could find safety & gain independence.

Kasra Jalilipour (they/them) is an Iranian artist & writer based in the UK. Through a positive obsession with histories of otherness they use methods of speculation to rewrite & reshape lost histories. The visual language in their works is often inspired by Imageries & texts from cultural & religious practices in the middle-east & Europe.

Their solo shows include Gut Feelings 2.0; Grand Union (Birmingham), Reliquary; Gasleak Mountain (Nottingham), Beastly Love; Arcade-Campfa & Bay Art (Cardiff). & group exhibitions Deviant Ornaments; National Museum of Norway (Oslo), Tallisman; Cardion Arts (London), My Garden’s Boundaries are the Horizon; de Apple, (Amsterdam), Mnemonic silences, disappearing acts; Jackman Humanities Institute (Toronto), & Letter Like Shapes Word Like Sequences; Amanda Wilkinson Gallery (London).

The exhibition Deviant Ornaments is curated by Dr Noor Bhangu @norqueque & accompanied by an interdisciplinary education & public programme curated by Håkon Lillegraven @artfag_ . Jalilipour is one of four artists with work commissioned for the exhibition. On view at @nasjonalmuseet in Oslo, Norway 27.11.2025-15.03.2026.

So incredibly touched by the hospitality and warmth extended to me by @norqueque and @artfag_ @nasjonalmuseet — loving curators, companions, cuties: pyar & shukriya (also @purabakwas). I leave but with a wish to return and hopefully soon!

Presenting our mix in response to the “Deviant Ornaments” exhibition at Nasjonalmuseet, Oslo, archived on our NTS page now, link in stories today

Bringing together artworks and artists from different time periods and regions across the
Islamic world, the exhibition “Deviant Ornaments” explores how gender, sexuality, and desire have been visualised throughout Islamic art history. Curated by Noor Bhangu, the exhibition is open from November 2025 to March 2026 at the National Museum in Oslo,
Norway. Through the themes of Ornamentation, Abundance, and History of Sexuality, the
exhibition brings together artworks ranging from the 11th century Fatimid Egyptian Empire
to present-day Norway in order to promote a more global understanding of queerness.
For the exhibition, several contemporary artists have produced new works for the
exhibition, all working with historical sources, playing with and manipulating history in
different ways.

Ornaments, Nasjonalmuseet, Oslo, 2025.
