Fam: Aye does Columbus have a green-book?
Me: Bet, Say Less!

When all of us win, one of us wins.

The Columbus Green Book Project is a Lite living directory connecting Black-led businesses and organizations & community to foster ecosystems of change in the greater columbus area.

Inspired by Victor Hugo Green’s Negro Motorist Green Book (1936-1966) a lifeline for Black travelers during the Jim Crow era, ensuring they had safe places to stay, eat, and thrive.

In a time when DEI initiatives and civil & Human rights are under attack, we understand that capitalism will never be the solution to Black liberation—because it ultimately only serves a few. That’s why this project extends beyond Black-owned businesses—we embrace Black-led community organizations, cultural spaces, grassroots movements, mutual aid networks, and more.

Ujamaa (Cooperative-Economics) means familyhood and suggests a sharing of work and wealth. It grows out of the fundamental communal concept that social wealth belongs to the masses of people who created it and that no one should have such an unequal amount of wealth that it gives them the capacity to impose unequal, exploitative, or oppressive relations on others.

the directory is not the solution to the challenges we face.it is meant to be a resource—to inspire collective investment—providing our community with access to resources, support systems, and organizations actively working toward our collective future.

✊🏾LEt’s Continue to Build

Fam, I honestly didn’t expect the response to the Church Fan Studies & devotional.

These started as a deeply personal creative practice a place for me to wrestle with faith, Black church tradition, culture, memory, liberation and all the contradictions that live between them. I started sharing the studies online, first to keep myself accountable to the practice and second cause I figure others are wrestling too. y’all have shown them more love than I could have imagined. And yes, I’ve seen all the messages asking, “When can I get one?”

Eventually, more of you will.

But the first physical release needed to mean something.

This year marks 10 years of @maroonartsgroup an organization I helped co-found, and we’re celebrating inside a space that has become a sanctuary for our own cultural production. It felt right that these objects rooted so deeply in Black cultural and spiritual memory for me would first become available here, with our people, in our space.

So this Saturday at AFRO—, I’m releasing a small first edition of select Church Fan Studies.

In person only. Only Available as an add-on for AFRO— ticket holders while they last.

More will come. But the first ones belong in this space.

Come get you a fan and THANK Y’all!

Bless 🙏🏿🤲🏿 taken in Bronzeville, Columbus by @artfluential_

ICONS & IMAGES

What do we choose to keep? What images become part of our personal archives and what stories do they carry?

Maroon Arts Group and Artfluential present ICONS & IMAGES, an exhibition featuring works from the personal collection of Ann B. Walker and Julialynne Walker

Through art, photography, and collected images, the exhibition offers a glimpse into a personal archive shaped by Black life, culture, memory, movement, and history. More than a collection of objects, ICONS & IMAGES invites us to consider the role images play in documenting who we are, what we value, and what we choose to preserve.

Opening August 27 | 6p - 7:30pThe Maroon Culture Lab867 Mt. Vernon Ave. | Columbus, OH 43203

Join us as we open the collection to the community and celebrate the stories held within it. by @artfluential_

“This is our national truth: America would not be America without the wealth from Black labor, without Black striving, Black ingenuity, Black resistance.”

— Nikole Hannah-Jones

As the country celebrates 250yrs we are reminded of the ancestors who built the foundations of what we now call America. We are reminded to of Black Joy, Black Resistance, Black resilience but most of all we are reminded that “Freedom ain’t Free” and that our acts of Joy is a practice in freedom dreaming.

Thank you to everyone that practiced freedom with us at #FREEDOMWORKS 2026. Y’all are beautiful. We are because you are. #Ubuntu #FREEDOM

Special thanks to:

Surprise POP-UP @juneteenthontheave

Bronzeville Universe 2026: Dedicated to Second Baptist Church. This popup is a tribute to our REAL local history of freedom and abolition and the faith centers that carried us through.

The Mythology

WHAT IF… THE BRONZEVILLE BALLERS WERE NEVER JUST A TEAM, BUT A BRIDGE TO FREEDOM?

Second Baptist Church was founded in 1836. It served as a real stop on the Underground Railroad, home to Deacon Pleasant Litchford and forty years of Rev. James Poindexter’s abolitionist pulpit. In our alternate history, that legacy didn’t end with emancipation. Decades later, when basketball became popularized, the Bronzeville Ballers “Freedom Champs” emerged as the next intervention on the train to freedom.

In this alternate timeline, the Bronzeville Church League was the perfect cover for organizing liberation efforts. Even though slavery was emancipated in 1865, the road to freedom didn’t stop there. Jim Crow, redlining, and the urban renewal that threatened to gut the Near East Side were just the next chains to break. Second Baptist remained a site for spiritual and physical liberation. Practices at odd hours. Traveling games with new rosters every so often. Games that ran late into the night. Equipment shipped in crates, players moving in and out of Second Baptist No one questioned it because they were also the best ballers in the game.

They were winning on and off the court. Freedom efforts grew into theaters, universities, freedom schools, and more.

Bronzeville Universe Seeks to reclaim space through imagination and public memory. We build the alternate timeline Through pop-up installations, speculative fiction and design, wearable archives, and campaigns where we invite people to dream out loud, together.

Pull up to the Artfluential Labs pop-up at #JOTA — cop the tee, step into the universe with us.
