Emma's Sinter Pour!

An exciting day for the team as we sintered the new addition to our family of furnaces.

Emma's work was the maiden pour.

Emma has been walking and tracing her tracks during her time with us.
Her work has an element of surveying and cartography, but while maps can be loaded with political and colonial history, Emma's walks and subsequent maps reveal a mapping of herself over many days.

The crucible studios will be open Sunday 25 October from 10am until 3pm.

Come meet Emma and see what she has been up to.
Emma will be talking about her practice and her time here as resident artist from 1.30pm until 2pm.

The 2026 Waitaki Arts Festival starts this Friday with the amazing Fly My Pretties playing at the Opera House.

Check out the fantastic activities and performances on offer and don't forget to visit Crucible Residency artist Emma Stretch and Residency Coordinator Katherine Kovacs, Labour weekend Sunday 25 October.

Following a long trip south from Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland, we were delighted to welcome our 2026 Crucible Residency artist, Emma Stretch, to Ōamaru.

Emma has settled in and begun exploring the town through walking and mapping her daily journeys, while considering the many converging influences that shape our people and land as she develops her practice here at the Crucible Studios.

We’re excited to share Emma’s experiences and the work that emerges during her time with us over the coming weeks.

A special thank you to the Ōamaru community, who have already extended such a warm welcome to Emma. We’re looking forward to seeing where her time here leads.
